    The two before that sucked.

What you are describing here are political and cultural problems. The media didn't invent or create these issues. Education and housing costs are astronomical for young adults and the hopelessness they feel is based in that reality. Likewise, boomers (and Gen Xers, btw) have seen the complete capture of every cultural institution by progressives who are hostile to non progressive ideologies. The media is one of these institutions. This didn't happen under Trump or after the GOP went MAGA. It began during the GWB presidency and consolidated under Obama. Conservatives have coexisted with a liberal legacy media since the 60s. Sure there was whacky conservative talk radio but there was also whacky print publications like Mother Jones and the New Republic, but the NYT and WP were not overly hostile to conservative policy arguments. That changed with the ideological shift and more activist approach now common. The "feeble minded" may use this as ammunition to further their toxic aims, but the fact remains it exists.

I'm sure that Shane Reese was a titan of academia and published several books. I need to up my Fan Duel game, so I'm going to check out some of those books.

you mean other than the presidency of the united states, the supreme court of the united states, the house of representatives, the senate, state and local politics, social media, the blogosphere, comedy, etc.? the race to be the most victimized is pathetic.

trump and the maga-ness of the gop are symptoms of the brainrot epidemic that has also resulted in a collapse in faith and trust in institutions on which any of these functions are predicated.

that *what* exists? the entire problem is that there is no such thing as a conservative policy argument in 2024 america, where the entirety of the gop policy served up is to elect trump and own the libs. conservatives should worry about taking back their own political and cultural institutions before worrying about throwaway ap headlines.

I said cultural institutions. Half of these are political institutions. Social media? Musk owns twitter and it has become less progressive, but is far from conservative. Unless allowing conservative voices means conservative now. All other social media is progressive. Does the blogosphere exist anymore? It's not the 90s. Comedy? Are you kidding me? Stand up comedy is full of transgressives, but they are quite libertine and liberal. All other comedy is overwhelmingly progressive (SNL, Talk Shows, Movies, etc).

Collapse of trust in cultural institutions perhaps?

We all know that the "conservative" policy positions are and you nailed it. Trump (the hammer) and fighting back the progressive takeover. I don't like it. I don't care much about the culture war. I care about fiscal policy and a check on government power. It depresses me greatly that the GOP is now the right wing party of big governemnt. I wish Trump would leave this mortal coil. But the pushback was inevitable and it would've happened without Trump. Culture is the most powerful component of society. People are going to fight over it.

Anyway, congratulations counselor. You have successfully maneuvered the conversation away from media bias to a broader tangential conversation about culture.

              Lol. Stop.

Shane Reese did publish a highly cited book on Bayesian reliability (I am sure Pelagius would love it). As of 3 years ago, he had published 45 peer-reviewed journal articles - 4X more than Claudine Gay. He has had an excellent academic career.

This is spokesperson-ing of a higher order:

Bateman declined to answer questions about Tuesday's statement, the second he has issued on the matter. University spokesman Brent Harker said he wasn't sure why Bateman publicly read-dressed the issue Tuesday. "All I can say is maybe the spirit is prompting him."
I had forgotten about this kerfluffle. However, I haven't forgotten the funniest thing written about Bateman:

The main role of a president is driving donations and applications to a school, no?

I wonder how many academics, by percentage, would be forced out if an enterprising young person unleashed an AI that could detect plagiarism on all their published works. I’d bet at least 20%.

That is one role, but I would never consider it to be the main role.

Some degree? Maybe. As extensive has hers? I seriously doubt it.

And apparently it was discovered back in October prior to her testimony, but it didn't get much traction in the media then.
