LOL, old people start repeating stories so those who have heard this I beg forgiveness.

Back in the late nineties the firm I worked for had a manager that had two offices for him. One was called the boom boom room. You can guess as I go along why.

Anwyay it was bad enough that NOW went after the firm and then the industry in a big way. Geez, corporate ask any ladies that had experienced a problem to let them know. One dumb ass in the office had acted weird and fake bit his assistant on the shoulder. She got $20,000. The girl who heard her boss use the f word through a closed door got $8,000.

We also had from corporate HR someone come out to have a meeting with us and talk about discrimination and improper behavior and who we needed to consider a protected class. The talk and slide show lasted an hour, then questions.

I told her thanks, but I think I could give her presentation in 5 minutes. Everyone is protected except white, heterosexual males between the ages of 22 and 55. She was a good sport. Laughed and said I was right.

If all the things he listed above are "not enough," what the hell does he want his professors to do? He complains incessantly about how he's being (vaguely) harmed, yet offers no solutions whatsoever.

I am glad others have the same reaction, because I couldn't understand what he wanted. Cultural warriors often make little sense.

Understanding their privileges to them is very different. They think that by not saying racist comments in class, they are doing good. Not knowing that that half-hearted attempt further contributes to the oppression that I experience in my predominantly white classrooms.

So...help me out here. He seems to be saying that he would prefer that White professors make racist comments, because attempting to NOT make racist comments contributes to the oppression.

This kind of reminds me of a Phil Hendrie bit where wearing a seatbelt is a traumatic experience for the character he is portraying due to it reminding him of the shackles of slavery.

This dude seems like a puss who will never be capable of functioning in regular society. Maybe it's good that he is doing all he can to avoid interacting with white people.

I don't know if I'd be able to respond in a pedagogical way to someone who treated me that way. I'm a much more pragmatic professor. "Everyone goes through shit. Turn to page 63 and let's talk about the shit these people were going through." I think I may have actually said that in class once, or something like it, but it was in response to someone complaining about all the work they had to do for their classes and all the "shit" they were going through with their ex. I can't remember anymore if I said it or wished I had.

I enjoyed the article, but I'd like to know what he thinks of Berger's The Social Construction of Reality and the consequences of what we think we know. He rightly points out that postmodernism is anti-science, but I'd like know what he thinks about how what we think we know can have consequences that ripple through society. For example, those who know that chiropracty is shenanigans vs those who know it works vs those who think osteopaths are fancy chiropractors vs those who think that's ridiculous, and so on. If we firmly believe that something is a certain way, and then technology or experimentation allows us to see that it is not (e.g., the endless "this is bad for you" medical articles) over time, how do we account for that discrepancy? Postmodernism likes to focus on that unknowability and rejects Samuel Johnson's argumentum ad lapidem, but, refuting things "thusly" via the scientific method is the only way to fight ignorance, I believe.

Well, the Berkeley peaceful protests against free-speech is doing wonders for Milo Yiannopoulos' up coming new book... thanks, in part, to all the free exposure he has been getting on the national media.

Following the violent anti-free-speech protests in Berkeley, California last night - sparked by cal's special snowflakes hurt feelings at the potential words that would come out of Milo Yiannopoulos' mouth during a sold-out event - it appears America's curiousity has been piqued.


Sales of Milo's book have increased 12,740% overnight sending it rocketing from 642nd to 5th ranked best-seller on Amazon. Pretty impressive considering the book is not even released until March 14th 2017.



When the book was first announced last year, a twitter storm also sparked panic-buying of the book.

So despite all the best efforts of the liberal intelligentsia to shut down his 'free-speech' last night - hurting the feelings of 600 conservatives who were looking forward to the event - we suspect a lot more than 600 Americans are now about to get a crash course in how Milo thinks.
