Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

      • An old SCOTUS reads the prevailing political winds and retires so the president can nominate someone from his side of the political spectrum.

Please some smart lawyer, remind me again why term limits for SCOTUS, with each president getting to nominate 1 justice per 4 year term, could possibly be any worse than what we have now.

        • Apparently the shortlist includes Ketanji Brown Jackson and Leondra Kruger. Biden made a campaign promise that his first nomination (if he had the chance) would be an African American woman.

Apparently, Jackson is the more progressive of the two so I assume she gets the nomination. I doubt there will be any Dem resistance and certainly a couple of GOP senators will vote to co firm as well.

I don't think our current system is worse, or even bad. It seems to produce decent results.

Seriously! I mean-- we're almost to midterms! How can we allow the current legislation to confirm the pick when We The People have yet to weigh in?!

Hard disagree! Look at the relaxing or even changing norms around the Garland and Barrett's nominations. And now democrats are saying they're going to use the same timetable as the republicans did with Barrett.

                  It's going to get worse.

Well, not really announces. It leaked. And Breyer is pissed.

And Biden won't have to run with her in the next go around.

The justices should retire before they die. I mean, RBG was barely breathing for the last decade of her life. Maybe having justices that don’t think too highly of themselves would be a start.

Interesting fact: Jackson is related to former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan by marriage. I would think she has the advantage sitting on an Appeals Court versus Kruger who serves CA Supreme Court. Also, Jackson clerked for Beyer.

                              • That would cap a meteoric rise for Kruger (who wouldn't be a bad pick IMO).
