think about what you are defending. do you have any evidence they conlcuded it wasnt necessary? it seems it is lgbt so you are assuming it is not needed

Things like that hotline came to being because that community is so high risk for suicide. Having a specific hotline would mean having staff and volunteers who have training to deal with group-specific challenges. They would also have more familiarity with resources.

This kind of move also comes along with other mean-spirited cuts to programs that help this group.

Sure, but I read that the line is redundant with many other national and local services. And the national 998 suicide and crisis hotline will still be active and fully functioning. What is going away is the "press 3" option for LGBT youth services, which has been around since 2022 as a pilot project.

For example, a simple google search brings this link right to the top:

          https://lgbthotline.org/

Here is another one, with a bunch of numbers:

10% of all 988 calls went to LGBTQ-specific service, and this is even with 8/10 LGBT teens not even knowing it exists, so I can totally see why you think it's not necessary.

From the head of the agency that runs the hotline:

“Everyone who contacts the 988 Lifeline will continue to receive access to skilled, caring, culturally competent crisis counselors who can help with suicidal, substance misuse, or mental health crises, or any other kind of emotional distress. Anyone who calls the Lifeline will continue to receive compassion and help,” the agency said.
Listen, I honestly don't care one way or the other. I just think people are not reacting rationally to this.

why are you selectively quoting something without context? maybe the context is unhelpful to pretending it is ok

Are you aware of more context that you think should have been included in the Dude's story? Or are you just calling Jeff out without evidence?

                  • I'm seriously going to be angry if the Supreme Court looks the 14th Amendment in the eye and still fumbles on the birthright citizenship case.

Heaven forbid should they push back on executive authority even when they know full well what the executive wants in this case is blatantly unconstitutional. They sure didn't seem to have much trouble with curbing that authority with the previous executive.

                        • Decisions issued today limiting universal injunctions, rejecting a challenge to certain Obamacare coverage requirements, and permitting Secretary Kennedy to remove HHS task force members:

                          https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinion...4-354_0861.pdf

Each is a 6-3 decision, but only the first is the traditional conservatives versus liberals split. In the other two, the dissenters are Alito, Thomas, and Gorsuch.

The majority opinion in the first surprises me with some of the fiery language it uses.

The decisions do not directly address the issue of birthright citizenship-- just the idea of issuing orders applying beyond the parties to the case.

Held: the player who secures the football past the goal line is awarded six points, but the referees lack the authority to award any points to the other members of that team, or to the team as a whole.

You could look at it another way, using your same analogy: the referees lack authority to award points to teams that aren't playing in the game they are officiating.
