  • Seriously, I really think that polygamy needs to have several characteristics to maintain a male dominated society.

    1. There can only be polygamy, not polyandry.
    2. There needs to be an ultimate authority (political, religious, etc) that can and will allocate the scarce resource (the women) from man to man
    3. The women in the society need to be seriously repressed, cut off, and kept away from modern society.

If you look at LDS history, as well as fundamentalist life as it currently is, and Islam, you find that all 3 of these conditions are met.

In a modern incarnation of polygamy as would be found legal in the US, all 3 conditions do not hold. Thus a different outcome may occur.

      • I read this column a month or so ago, and I appreciated its points. http://theweek.com/articles/550748/s...iage-gets-ugly

The earliest poll I can find on gay marriage is from 1996. 68% of the country was against and 27% in favor according to the Gallup poll.

While I personally have no objection to gay marriage and support the Supreme Court's ruling, I'm also decidely against the bullying of the remaining 40% of the country that still opposes gay marriage.

Especially coming from some Johnny Come Lately supporter who was fresh off the mish in 1996 and attending BYU and who I can guarantee was not on board with gay marriage at the point along with 70% of the country.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

What was the date when you decided to not object to gay marriage? How long have you held that position?

                    • It's about marriage equality?

Polygamous Montana trio applies for wedding license

A Montana man said Wednesday that he was inspired by last week's U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage to apply for a marriage license so that he can legally wed his second wife.

Nathan Collier and his wives Victoria and Christine applied at the Yellowstone County Courthouse in Billings on Tuesday in an attempt to legitimize their polygamous marriage. Montana, like all 50 states, outlaws bigamy — holding multiple marriage licenses — but Collier said he plans to sue if the application is denied.

"It's about marriage equality," Collier told The Associated Press Wednesday. "You can't have this without polygamy."

County clerk officials initially denied Collier's application, then said they would consult with the county attorney's office before giving him a final answer, Collier said.

Yellowstone County chief civil litigator Kevin Gillen said he is reviewing Montana's bigamy laws and expected to send a formal response to Collier by next week.

Given that a good percentage of the homeless LGBT youth are/were mormon this makes sense. Maybe the church could just tell parents to stop kicking their LGBT kids out of the house.

                        • Shouldn't polyamorous families be entitled to the state-sanctioned legitimacy same-sex couples enjoy thanks to SCOTUS?

No that's more flower child hippie. They're more new-age-sacred-geometry hippie. Very similar vibe, though except these two girls look nice and not like porn stars.

And the bride slips him the tongue.
