Why does my church love self inflicting pain?

This reminds me a movie scene where someone is just beating the living crap out of someone, where the guy losing just won't go down, and then when you finally think it's over, the guy bruised and bloodied on the ground tries to get up or says something else to piss the other guy off, receiving yet another blow.

8 Ways Allies Can Show Up For the Queer Community After Orlando

      [. . .]
      2. Don’t Vote Republican.

At least not this year, if you feel so strongly about it. Just keep in mind that you’re not allowed to be sad about the Pulse massacre when you’ve been actively promoting people who have been behind loose gun laws, trans panic defenses about bathrooms, and at least 200 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills this year alone.
If you still feel your presumed tax break is more important that saving lives, then you need to admit that to yourself and do some serious reflection on the impact of your actions.

      [. . .]
      4. Make Us Something To Eat.

Make no mistake: This type of situation stimulates grief and mourning, and grief and mourning are horrible things to go through.
One of the first things to go is one’s self-care, especially when it comes to eating. Make sure we’re eating. Don’t lecture us about the type or quantity of food. Just make sure we’re eating.

      [. . .]

      5. Don’t Talk Over Us.

This is not your time. This is our time.
Yes, you’re sad. Yes, you’re scared. Yes, you’re feeling things. But I’m sorry, this isn’t about you. The queers are talking right now.
We’re the ones that just lost our queer siblings. We’re the ones that can’t give blood or visit our dying partners in the hospital because of archaic laws. We’re the ones watching the deceased be prematurely outed because they were at a queer club, as calls are going to families from morgues and hospitals.
And yes, we’re the ones that are conveniently being used for political gain right now by our enemies in order to smother a fellow vulnerable community.
And amongst all that, we’re expected to sit down, swallow our grief, and listen to how YOU feel watching us suffer?
No. You have to wait your turn. Your feelings are valid and we appreciate your sadness and anger, but you need to talk about your feelings with fellow allies for right now.

      [. . .]
Seems like the image affixed to the column is pretty fitting.

Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Good hell. The internet gives a platform to unhinged people and they're winning converts. The tragedy could be used to bury the hatchet on some of the differences and find some new common ground, but some people thrive off of the hostility.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Love how we Mormons believe that marriage and family are the most important thing in the world. But a gay person has no need to marry or adopt -- definitely not a civil right.

Hopefully you also watched the video. I only got through 3 mins of it before I got interrupted but I'm looking forward to finishing it.

Gotta say, Miki was a bitch in that class.

Not to pile on too much, since it is in a similar vein of CES videos. But does anyone have those discussions, anywhere? Is there a small-group classroom in some college where a professor leads such vague discussions about civil rights? Is there a bishop anywhere that freely quotes scripture at length and is supremely prepared for this type of discussion?

I was interested in finding out where the new line of 'basic rights' is. It seems like the church has settled on job and housing discrimination. Which is kind of funny, since the Utah legislature compromise still allows for small-time landlords to discriminate. But it was progress.

I wonder how many rounds of review that script took before being approved. They really straddled the line there several times. The "just like you can't force someone not to be gay" seemed to be a big step towards "being born gay" while still allowing for plenty of wiggle room, if necessary.

I have to admit, I was Team Miki. But I do agree with Samantha, I think it's time that we finally stop making doctors go around aborting babies against their will. That seems to be the crux of the religious liberty issue.

But I didn't once hear the term same sex attraction, so progress.

                    • Finally finished the video. It's not too bad and hopefully results in more Mormons critically thinking about the issue...and thus changing their opinion.

I do at times wonder if people in the church just assume that everyone else in the church is against gay marriage. I know people are shocked when they find out that I'm for marriage equality, but very few know because I don't proselyte my position.

Nah, she's still OK. The carefully carved out exceptions she cited were forcing Christians to perform abortions and therapists to counsel gays. Apparently she doesn't have a problem forcing clerks to marry gays.

I'm so nondiscriminatory, I'd tap them both.

That haircut is hilarious. The Hitler Youth Hipster cut is a pretty bad hair trend.
