If you set aside Maryland and Virginia whose income figures are massively inflated due to their location next to DC, seven of the eight states with the highest black population are all within ten of the poorest states in the country. Guys like you get their shits and giggles asking these states with the high black populations to secede. Speaks volumes.
What makes you think he isn't talking about California, New York, and Illinois?

I was thinking more along the lines of North Dakota and Montana...maybe West Virginia.

Would they have to leave the Big XII? I like your thinking.

Why do libs like Ted Turner and Tom Brokaw move to a red neck place like Montana? Is it like Redford living in Utah, they think they can make a difference and turly enlighten all the nuts.

Redford moved to Utah to buy a ski resort. Which reminds me of the time I came across him skiing at Alta. We told him we agreed the snow was much better there than at Sundance. He was not amused.

If any state is pulling its weight right now it is North Dakota.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

                • Just want to point out that the vehemence and name-calling on the gay marriage issue by those in support of gay marriage ---- i.e., making light of people's religiously held views; calling opponents bigots and hateful; mocking and making fun of others; cheering on in mockery those on hunger strikes ----- is a fascinating study of the evolution of individual and cultural views. Many of those taking the mocking tone didn't just a few years ago, and certainly didn't back in the cougargard days. There are assholes who have always been assholes (DDD), but even they were generally more guarded before their more naturally mocking natures were give more cultural space to roam.

The gay marriage issue is passing from the group of opinions for which there can be respectful disagreement into the realm that opposition can't be voiced in polite and even impolite (i.e., this pace) society anymore. It's fascinating to witness.

You asked for an opinion on your car, why be mad?

For the record, I didn't mock Brother Meacham for his view on SSM, just that he fasted for it. I would also mock Richard Dutcher and Al Sharpton (though I think Sharpton's was less a fast and more a diet).

I would guess it is a society thing. The two sides although not representitive of the normal guy going on about his business have become more polarized.

I think the religious zealots have always been into the name calling. Scum, whore, dirty, trash, sinner, no morals, drunkards, bums and so on. They derive their power from a belief that God sanctions their opinions. I wonder though if a lot of them since they base this on faith in God have reservations about calling others names. One could always ask, is that really how Jesus would act.

On the other side you have the "intellectual elite". I am sure they have always been there, but they seem to be more vociferous. Of course they derive their power from the fact they are "smarter" than others. Thus their positions evolve and they receive more intellectual light. Romney a religious man changes his views it is political. Obama known for his intellect changes and it is because even as smart as he is, he is getting smarter. They have gained in number as they "intellectual elite" have come more out into the open. Who knew Walter Cronkrite was a flaming liberal. I sure didn't. I always thought he was the man I could Trust. It's kinda cool to side with these forward thinking smart people. Your news media, your college professors, the lawyers (who become judges and politicians) generally agree with you. So if you are not with this forward thinking crowd, what are you? You are stupid, backward, unscientific, naive, bigotted, racist, homophobic and totally uncaring.

I like sitting on the sidelines but could fit in on either side. I am highly intelligent with greaat wisdom and knowledge. In addition God talks to me.
