But what about all the benefits?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYou folks obviously missed the recent church article on polygamy. God doesn't need us to practice polygamy anymore because Utah is no longer a rugged frontier territory with an agrarian economy.
Surely these are still desirable...marriage became available to virtually all who desired it; per-capita inequality of wealth was diminished as economically disadvantaged women married into more financially stable households; and ethnic intermarriages were increased, which helped to unite a diverse immigrant population."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Governor Herbert puts on his grinch face and invalidates all of the recent gay marriages in Utah.

The office of Utah Governor Gary Herbert (R) said same-sex couples who were married after the state's ban on gay marriage was struck down, but before the Supreme Court halted gay marriages in the state, will not be recognized as legally married."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I mentioned earlier in the thread that my company - one of the largest employers in the state - would continue recognize gay marriages performed in Utah even if the the state doesn't recognize them, but now that Herbert has made it official, we have also made it official - those gay couples will continue to be treated as spouses for benefits purposes.I'm like LeBron James.

You obviously didn't read the statement. He didn't invalidate the marriages, he just put everything on hold until the issue has worked its way through the system.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostGovernor Herbert puts on his grinch face and invalidates all of the recent gay marriages in Utah.

Please understand this position is not intended to comment on the legal status of those same-sex marriages – that is for the courts to decide.

I truly wish all companies, government agencies, non-profits, etc. would be as forward lookin as your company. If they would be we wouldn't have all this commotion over whether gays can marry or not. I personally can't see why a couple committed to each other, that goes for unmarried hetero's living together, shouldn't have all the material benefits available to them that a licensed married couple has.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI mentioned earlier in the thread that my company - one of the largest employers in the state - would continue recognize gay marriages performed in Utah even if the the state doesn't recognize them, but now that Herbert has made it official, we have also made it official - those gay couples will continue to be treated as spouses for benefits purposes.
