That lady is bat shit crazy. I seriously wonder how someone like that would deal with a gay child? She probably has one and doesn't even know it.

Mack and Eager urge citizens to call upon their local leaders because change will come from the bottom-up.
      I thought this was funny.

      • DesNews article on the meeting in Highland. I wish I could have attended. Some of these quotes are awesome:

        http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8...e-in-Utah.html

"You're never going to convince us that homosexual marriage is one of those innate, God-given rights. It's not," he said. "If you read the Bible, you will plainly and simply see that it's not."
Speaking of the gay community he said parents have rights and "we choose not to teach that to our children and we don't want you teaching it to them either. Don't shove your agenda in our faces or down our throats. We don't want any more of your gay appreciation parades."
"There are a lot of people who are upset about this," said Cherilyn Eager, a conservative political activist who is organizing the opposition. "It's really up to we the people at this point. Our governor is not with us on this. We have a state legislature that won't even call a special session. Our federal delegation has been silent about this."
"We are absolutely within our right to secede from a political union that no longer answers to the demands of liberty and justice," he said.

What's with the adulation of former Arizona sheriffs? My mom loves Arpaio. Does Mack have a similar following in Utah?

Never heard of the guy. Seems to be popular among the nullification/secede/stop-the-queers nutjob contingent.

Weird. It was odd that the article mentioned his credentials.
I wonder if the nullification/secede/stop-the-queers nut job contingent intersects with the Obama birth certificate contingent of Joe Arpaio.

It appears the challenges part of the Brady Act and won a SCOTUS victory. Here is a pretty thorough background on the guy:

Wow. Democrat turned republican turned libertarian, darling of conspiracy groups, flirting with racists, encouraging sedition and secession. The Highland group really scored a win with this guy.

At least now there's no question about what type of people associate with.

That's a damn good reason. And the 10th Circuit Court took all of five minutes to reject Utah's request for a stay because Judge Shelby's logic is sound and Utah's is not. The consensus is by people who really know law that the Supreme Court will also rule against Utah. I'd be willing to bet you thousands of dollars the Supreme Court sides with Judge Shelby's ruling. You probably ought to study law some more, your reasoning is not sound.
While I agree with Mr Mac Utah Ute that I think the Supreme Court will find laws prohibiting gay marriage unconstitutional, I think UVA is right that the Supreme Court won't follow Shelby's due process decision. If gay marriage wins at SCOTUS (and its a close case) it will have to do so on equal protection grounds.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I thought the observation about fasting in secret was actually surprisingly poignant for an internet comments section.

the "you're still here?" Post was funny.

Authorial intent is a fallacy. Words evolve over time, and while I might understand your desire to respect intent, it's bullshit. Even if I write "I love imanihonjin" you don't know my intent. I can say, I mean it sincerely, but you can still receive it sarcastically. We tend to judge others by their acts, but ourselves by our intent, so we think we prefer it, but in reality, we don't give that luxury to anyone outside our sphere of friends/family. So, you can make appeal to reason of intent, but it's bullshit, man. Intent wants us to assume that intent is clear or known, but your interpretation of intent is merely an impression of intent. Intent can never be known.
