Ha. Yeah, I forgot that wuap called me that. It was in the police brutality thread. I was opining about the annoying new trend of outrage culture/public shaming and also the emerging nonsense about trigger warnings and safe spaces on college campuses. SU thought I was making it up. Then Yale, Mizzou, Ithaca, etc. happened. Swish. I would ask wuap for an apology, but I know he was joking.

I am not at all worried about a John Dehlin comparison. I am genuine about my loyalties.

This thread is fine. It's all part of the same journey.

I fall into the group that thinks SSM should be legal and that homosexual relations are sinful. I also think people should be allowed to drink coffee but I also think it's sinful. I wonder if I fall into that authors realm of apostasy?

          You have to ask?

Well, I'm not advocating against the brethren since an apostle has clearly said its okay...but MWS makes it sound like I'm apostate. Thankfully the author has as much authority on the subject as my 10 year old daughter so I'll side with Elder Christofferson on this one and continue to support SSM.

So if you have a kid who turns out to be gay would you tell him/her that homo sex is sinful and he/she should stay a virgin forever, never have spouse or kids?

You are confusing prog-mo with apostasy.

                      • I'm glad I took the time to read that article. Outside of seminary, institute, sacrament meeting, Sunday school, priesthood, relief society, primary, general conference, firesides, youth conference testimony meeting, and listening to the missionaries, I don't think those talking points are very well known.

I probably made my initial post a bit too much black and white. I tried to allude to my belief that homosexual sex between married adults is about as sinful as drinking coffee. It's on the low end of the spectrum for me. Certainly not somehting that somebody should be excommunicated over, which is contrary to the church's policy....and according to MWS means that I don't support the prophet and am an apostate since policies, while not officially doctrine a "Policy is simply a way to establish the practice of doctrine – not some separate or competing thing".

I wonder what MWS thinks about people that dress up as Christ as part of a musical roadshow production. Guess those people are apostate as well.

The funny thing about the broohaha over this new policy is that even the leaders in my stake were having issues understanding the policy. Granted they weren't questioning it so much, although there was a little bit of that, but we all agreed (bishoprics and SP members) it needed to be clarified since it seemed way too broad given the myriad circumstances it would have impacted. It wasn't just the progmos that were up in arms.

I also find it interesting that the policy is still in the handbook in its poorly worded state. I guess updating it right now would make it seem like the media/antis won

For the first time in years, that article made me feel good about a male-only priesthood.
