You can't be racist against middle class white males! It's not possible. And you do care about me, quit lying.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostIs this racist? I think so. What if somebody said to cougjunkie or 3D, you're just a Latino, stop acting like a white guy; my ancestors are from Northern Europe; I don't have to pretend? Would that be okay? I don't think so.*Banned*

i did come home with some aguayo gear, various stuff (scripture covers, backpack) made from this sort of material:

in retrospect most of it was lame but at the time I thought it was pretty boss.
I also will cop to listening to some spanish pop music and trying to convince my roommates that it was cool (los prisioneros come to mind, i think i will still stand by that one today). I get a pass on that though because my roommates were doing the same thing to me with music from Cape Verde and Mexico.
Probably the most egregious violation I committed was bringing home a pan flute called a "Zampoña" and playing it in my room or sometimes outside on the steps to our apartment. One day I was sitting out there playing some bada** pan flute tunes and this girl in my building walks by and says, "whats up, Zamfir?" It was really embarrassing. I dont think I played it again after that and left it somewhere in a box in my closet.
I came home with a similar cache from Guatemala, including a genuine "tipica" placemat or something made by a lady in Quiche or somewhere for my mom. She really didn't give 2 shits about it.
I also had a soccer jersey from a local squad (yet to wear it. Maybe some day) b/c Guatemala's national jersey is an embarrassment. I did bring home a bootleg shakira tape and did at one point own the Mana Unplugged cd which isn't bad. I probably listened a few times when I got home and then picked right back up where I left off w Smashing Pumpkins.
I do still have a sweet blanket made of that stuff that is really colorful that I like and has stood the test of time.

wow does ddd know you feel this way? I think he'd prefer his kids stay in church, though, to be honest.Originally posted by old_gregg View Posti think i'd rather listen to a ddd in a gadda da vida-length panflute solo three times a day for eternity than ever listen to smashing pumpkins

Confession time: I bought a Mexican soccer jersey here in Phoenix. In fairness, I have a lot of Mexican friends, but I insist it was NOT done to impress any of them!

Hell, you have even been called an apologist multiple times on this site. Not by me, I've refrained from such comments against you.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI will give up this church when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.
I even strongly considered listing you as a hardliner with old_gregg, but you seem to actually respect women so I decided you didn't quite qualify as an LDS hardliner. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

i respect women the same way i respect a lawnmower or hammer: essential tools in a worthwhile cause but not to be played with or used without total control by their operator.

I am not Hispanic (despite a lengthy 1500's-on-back branch in Spain); I'm a Hispanophile. If you think these repeated pronouncements of me "pretending" to be Hispanic have any affect on me, disabuse yourself of that notion.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostYou seem to forget my family has legit Hispanic roots, they don't pretend like you.
Let's hear it for Dave Rudman, everyone.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI don't under your anger at all. Without the church you are nothing, you are not an intro to Spanish teacher at a community college making a below average wage.
You are a typical RM, serve a Spanish speaking mission, probably came home with a bunch of soccer jerseys, during your homecoming talk you pretend to not know certain English words. Every time you see a brown person you start busting out some Spanish, the minute you came home you planned a trip to head back. Studied Spanish in college because hey you are fluent after 2 years and it's an easy major. The difference is most of these RMs lose the weirdness and get on with life, you are still trying to live out that dream of acceptance.
Face it bro you are the product of white slave owners from the south, you will never be accepted.

It's so juvenile and immature as to be unworthy of an argument. Only a cretin thinks that it's better to let someone live in sin because they can get away with more until they repent.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Postokay, hard to argue with that.
A common misconception. I'm part of the McWuap family of the McIntyre clan of Scotland's Kintyre Peninsula; in Welsh Gaelic McWuap is Machynlleth. The English version of Machynlleth is Williams.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostWuap is not Italian?"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action.
