I am inclined to believe the policy is for children. Reaching the age of 18 is one of the prerequisites I guess for someone in that situation.

Not the way the policy is written. There is nothing in it that says the policy only applies to someone who is a minor when it is instituted. A 45 year old about also have to publicly disavow his gay parent(s).

The church is unnecessarily pissing off 80% of the 18-22 aged members, 50% of age 23-69 age members, and 1% of the 70+ members. What benefit do they get from it? I don't see any. When you're getting your ass kicked, it's best to just walk away from the fight.

Actually, it doesn't "get them out of the home." Once you are branded as a child of a gay, you are denied baptism until you are 18 years of age and apparently publicly disavow you gay parent(s). Guess what other kids this prohibits from being baptized, a child born of a man/woman where one of the parents later comes out as a gay and enters into a committed relationship. So basically, if a woman divorces a gay man and has custody of the child and both parents consent to the baptism, the child cannot be baptized until he turns 18 and disowns his gay father.
