What is wrong with California?

I've lived in the SF Valley for 30 years and I think you just had some really bad days.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostI will never go back to SoCal due to the overcrowding and the traffic. (Well, I might move to Crescent City or someplace not so crowded.) So yeah, while Big Bear is beautiful, it takes 6 hours to get there. When people would fly into Cali to visit, I'd beg them to take a redeye so I could pick them up at 2am, because my airport commute was only 25 minutes, as opposed to 3 hours during the day. It took 2.5 hours to get across the San Fernando valley during traffic hours, which are from 6am to 7pm. I've lived in La Jolla and Montecito, so I can appreciate California beauty, but it comes at a cost I am unwilling to pay. (I also miss the pay scale there, but then everything is bumped up so that factor kind of washes out).
I've never experienced traffic delays anything close to those, except during the L.A. riots in 1992.

As someone who had to cross San Fernando to go anywhere outside Santa Clarita, I think 2.5 hours is an exaggeration.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI'm interested in hearing more about a commute that takes 2.5 hours to get across the san fernando valley. Where were the starting and stopping points?
6 hours to Big Bear? Where did you live?
In fact, I'd take Los Angeles' traffic over NoVA/DC/MD's traffic any day of the week."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Really. Clear back in the 70's I drove from Palo Alto to Campbell (near San Jose) every day for my commute. The traffic jam there was one of the reasons I decided to move back to Utah.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI've lived in the SF Valley for 30 years and I think you just had some really bad days.

Also when we went camping in the hille between us and the ocean, the tents were on top of each other. Well, I exaggerate. There was at least 10 feet between the tents.

Boogie Nights was easily one of the top 10 movies of the 1990s. And had a top 3 full frontal scene.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI'm so disappointed that you actually know that.Part of it is based on academic grounds. No formula, merely a subjective opinion from an expert.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostTop 3? What's the formula for that ranking?Part of it is based on academic grounds.
