I don't have as big a problem with the payroll taxes going back to where they were as I do the new Obamacare taxes. If we are going to go through the charade of pretending Social Security will be around in 30 years, we might as well try to be consistent and not cut off funding.

Gee, it just got less funny. I forgot about the Obamacare taxes.

People are really whining that a temporary tax break is in fact temporary?

Can't remember the last time I looked at details of a paycheck. No idea how much mine has changed.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

The Dude makes a good point.

I get to wait another six days to learn my fate, but my insurance went up and I increased my flex spending deduction, so I'll take a bit of a hit on take home.

I'm not sure how much whining is going on here, but it is worth noting that this is yet another reason why middle-class wages have declined over the last several years.

I was talking about reactions in general.

The problem is that North Carolina's highest tax bracket starts somewhere around 60k, whereas that same bracket isn't hit in New York until the 200k level (which is north of my salary). Even with the city tax my city+state here are less than my state was in NC. It mystifies me, to be honest.

Mine took a pretty good hit. I upped my 401K by 5% at the same time.

I looked at my check to see if we were actually missing some hours.

This is why I fear we may never get our house in order before we have a Greece like situation on our hands.

Everyone seems to subscribe to the squeeky wheel theory.

I think the latest poll says 75% of Americans want spending cuts.

Planned parenthood and the womens groups who support them don't want a cut.

Of course the people dependent on the military don't want a cut.

We certainly can't cut education. How we going to keep up with the Chinese.

                        Can't cut NPB.

Can't cut SS benefits, that money was earned.

Problem is we all want the other guys benefit cut. Just like we want the other guy to pay more taxes. Our politicians don't have the nuts or the good sense to tackle the issue now and make some really polticially tough decisions.

They all cater, but I think Obama and the dems are doing it on steroids these days.

Yes, why were people whining about losing the Bush jr tax cut? We should have just driven this big bus over the cliff. At least then we would have had a reasonable spending cut.

                            I agree with you dude.

In California I would like to see a 10% cut across the board for the following:

                            State Employees
                            Law Enforcement
                            Fire Department
                            Corrections
                            County Employees
                            City Employees
Teachers (TW is a teacher, so this directly affects us. So we have some "skin" in this solution.)
And all of the retired people from the above jobs.

Basically any service in the State of California that is provided through tax dollars. 10% cut to everyone.

Is it going to hurt? You bet it is. But it is the only way that we can get anything done.

I would then like to see the 10% that is taken from all of these people, and used to pay down the California State Deficit.

Hmm... according to this cost of living calculator you would need to be paid $202,111 per year in NYC if you were paid $80,000 back in Raleigh-Cary (152.64% increase) to maintain the same standard of living. Congrats on your 152.64+% raise!

Exactly how I am. I have a very bad habit of this. I just checked the details of my check at the end of the year to see how much I made in the year. It was July before then.
