In California I would like to see a 10% cut across the board for the following:

      State Employees
      Law Enforcement
      Fire Department
      Corrections
      County Employees
      City Employees
Teachers (TW is a teacher, so this directly affects us. So we have some "skin" in this solution.)
And all of the retired people from the above jobs.

Basically any service in the State of California that is provided through tax dollars. 10% cut to everyone.

Is it going to hurt? You bet it is. But it is the only way that we can get anything done.

I would then like to see the 10% that is taken from all of these people, and used to pay down the California State Deficit.
People say there is no way we can possibly cut any services, but in education, for example, we spend more per student K-12 than any country in the world. There is a ton of inefficency and waste built into all government spending that could be trimmed.

Yes, but the bush jr tax cut was temporary as well.

I will be more than happy to throw in the first two years of my Social Security.

I would want some kind of guarantee the money saved is not going to pay for something else Obama wants to add.

It is so hilarious to hear Obama and the dems claim they saved over $700 billion in medicare or medicaid. They took the savings and went right over and spent it on Obamacare besides raising taxes for Obamacare.

Thats like finding a way to saving $300 in mortgage due to refinancing and then going out and spending $600 additional on food and vacations.

Reminds me of when my wife comes home from the store telling me that she bought something we didn't need, but that's OK - because it was on sale for half off and she saved $200.

I want to tell her - "you know, if you hadn't bought it you could've saved $400..."

Yea my ex would drive all over the place saving money. Problem was the gas and wear and tear on the car, plus her wasted time was a lot more than the money saved.

Obama to congress: "Thanks everyone... Here's a little something to offset that tax hike."

President Barack Obama gave a New Year's gift to returning members of Congress, federal workers and Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday, signing an executive order calling for an end to a years-long pay freeze.

According to the order, Biden's pay will increase from $225,521 to $231,900 a year, before taxes. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will see his salary increased to $224,500 and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will take home an annual pay of $194,400 after his raise.

While Obama's order made no mention of merit for such a raise, HuffPost's Amanda Terkel reported on Friday that the 112th Congress is set to end the session as the most unproductive since the 1940s, with only 219 bills passed by the body becoming law. The raise won't take place until the 113th Congress, meaning that outgoing members will see no effect from the order.
In other news everyone else is trying to figure out how to cut their own budgets.

I'm in favor of smaller government, so the number of bills passed are not a good measure for a productive Congress. The real work is going to be making spending cuts. We'll see if the next Congress can get it done I guess.

Thanks to a raise, I broke even when the increased payroll tax and insurance premiums are accounted for.

My Fortune 50 company has built an intranet (internal) web site so its employees can better calculate and understand the true value of their compensation...because the rank and file's bottom line on their paycheck has gotten smaller every year even with temporary tax cuts, etc.

I haven't taken the time to view it yet. It's bound to be interesting since the company recently ditched their limited pension for new hires. Perhaps this internal web site is a sign of economic recovery since the company seems a little worried about losing staff.
