Is he really quitting because he had an affair? Why is he telling us this? Why does he have to quit because of this?
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

    Blackmail. Why else?
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Maybe the affair was with a Russian spy.

Apparently he is no longer the very model of a modern major general.

If it was a subordinate he would have to resign. No question. Many conservative F500 have the same regulations for management, i.e. Boeing.

Also as D/CIA it's also an issue - potential blackmail, etc.

It's a bummer though, either way.

Quit or well tell you had an affair? And then tell everyone?

Adultery can be disqualifying for a security clearance, particularly when it is of a public nature. I imagine that he's trying to beat someone else to the punch in his admission.

                      He slept with his biographer.

                      The title of the biography:

                      All In

                      Awesome!
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

As sad as this is I'll give Petraeus this - he's no Bill Clinton. If he's gonna take the fall he's not doing it for some chubby intern.

I will add that I'm giving some thought to some public ladies I'd be willing to write biographies for. Irish Labor leader Maria Parodi comes to mind.

The General also appears to have had a "sexual relationship" with her.

I say there's more to this. If this were George Marshall in 1945 he wouldn't be resigning. Obama administration people wanted him out anyway.
