am reading about the history of Nazi Germany. Currently in the section on Hitler's rise to power in the the early 1920's. Noticed a few things:

1) One of his central messages was to make Germany great again (and safe).
2) Following the Germany defeat in WW1, another central theme was restoring an attitude of winning.
3) Constantly talked about the negative influence of foreigners and immigrants in Germany.
4) His message resonated with the angry working class. Educated people were mostly against him.
5) At the early Nazi rallies, protesters would show up and shout and disturb the events. Some of the attendees beat the protestors up and Hitler approved. Based on this approval, a group of thugs formally organized to beat up protesters at subsequent rallies. This group later became the SA (storm troopers).

Nazi comparison are fun (I still really like the orange reich as a description of Trump supporters ... but I also like neo-confederates ... so I think civil war analogy are fun too). More seriously I expect Trump's impact will be more like Oswald Mosley. Of course, Mosley had the blackshirts.

Palin Cancels Trump Event After Husband in 'Serious' Snow Machine Crash

No mention on the Drumpf tweeter feed (yet). I am surprised that Ted tweeted given all that Palin has been saying about him.

I watched the Race for the Whitehouse Lincoln vs Douglas on CNN. Since I am not as bright as the rest of you, I learn a lot of things I wasn't aware of.

1) I knew Lincoln was in the House but didn't know only 1 term. It was 11 years later when he first ran for President.

2) I didn't know honest Abe wasn't so honest in getting the republican nomination. Cruz probably learned the printing up false documents from Abe. He packed the convention by printing false tickets and having the convention full when legitimate delegates tried to get in.

3) It was actually a brokered convention. Abe won on the thrid ballot by bribing some very corrupt politicians. As President Obama's campaign manager said, whatever devious things Abe did to get the nomination and Presidency, it was a good thing.

4) Two democrats ran thus splitting up the democrat party. Abe won with only 40% of the popular vote.

5) Their was an assination attempt planned that was thwarted on Abes way to the inauguration.

It hasn't lessened my admiration and respect for Abe. It just means I guess I have to cut a little more slack to current politicians and not expect as much out of them as I have in the past.


I thought Trump made some a good point on the Sunday shows by asking why the media is calling it violent rallies when no one has been hurt. Then like the dumb jackass he is, he makes me think less of him again by tweeting his people show go to Sanders rallies.

Please, please let this be decided at the convention. I can't stomach Trump or Cruz. Trust me, not all Kasich or Rubio supporters would turn to Cruz in a head to head.

Bernie won't run as an independent. Unlike Trump, he's not in it for his own self aggrandizement.

I wasn't inclined to like Cruz very much early on, but the stronger Trump gets the better Cruz looks to me. Simplifying the tax code and getting rid of the IRS, strict constructionist supreme court appointees, weaker federal government, realist foreign policy (instead of knee jerk interventionist neocon), pro-free market, anti-protectionist free trader, suspicious of the NSA and aware of the need to protect civil liberties...as a libertarian, sign me up (although I'd prefer a true libertarian).

I can see his religious inclinations being suspicious to moderates, but what could he really do there? Abortion isn't going to change. Gay marriage isn't going to go away. Pro-school choice and less federal influence in education, so what. The social side also really doesn't really seem to be his main emphasis.

Rubio is a nice guy but I'm not a fan of his neocon foreign policy tendencies.

Kasich is my favorite because he's level headed and experienced at governing. I think he has the best chance of being a good president. His middle of the road approach to things I think would be fine. I'm comfortable with him. He can't win though, even in a contested convention, IMO. But I want him to stay in to make it harder for Fuhrer Drumpf.

Pretty much in agreement with you. The problem I have with Cruz and it is a major one is I don't think he will have a prayer of getting anything done. My opinion is he would be the other end of President Obama. Claiming he wants to bring people together, but talking and acting in a way totally opposite of that. Then he would claim obstructionists and he tried, but no one would compromise with him.

Compromise to both President Obama and Cruz is we do it my way, I won. I am not a big fan of those who support him either. Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh and the rest of the shut down the government croud. I don't doubt Cruz stayed home and didn't vote for Romney in the last election.

Why am I not surprised the author is a PHD? Probably has teaching status at some University.

That said she is welcome to her opinion and why should anyone really care if he was gay or not?
