Perhaps I am being too optimistic, but nobody close to this conservative has ever been a serious contender for the Republican nomination, even ignoring general electability.

This is why I can't believe that his positions are manufactured; unless the Republican electorate has taken a huge jump to the right in the last 1-3 years, any success he has will have been made more difficult, not less, by his falsely-held positions.

Huh. According to that graph Mitt isn't so 'severely conservative'. Go figure.

Based on all the political memes on my FB feed, Cruz would seem to be the perfect candidate for the solidly conservative voter. But most of those meme-posters are saying they don't like Cruz, which I don't understand at all. If amnesty is a deal breaker for you (and it seems like one for the majority of my conservative friends), then he's your man. These are the same people who were rabidly pro-Mitt last time around. LOL.

As far as intelligence is concerned, I think Cruz is pretty smart. At least his litigation experience would seem so. He's certainly smarter than Palin, whose politics Cruz seems to mirror. So he's got that going for him.

Meanwhile our mainstream president is courting Iran and letting them keep centrifuges inside of some fortified facility in the side of a mountain. Saudi Arabia, shockingly to the Obama administration and no one else, now wants nukes because apparently Iran gets to have them and they don't want Iran running around the entire region unchecked and backed by nuclear weapons. Smart power apparently means precipitating a nuclear arms race in the middle east and having the French call you naive.

But at least mainstream Obama is right about gay marriage, after being conveniently wrong in 2008, and he was great on the Tonight Show that one time. I'm sure it felt great to pull the lever for this idiot.

A handful of gay marriages, which would have happened with or without Obama, seems like a good trade for nuclear weapons proliferation in the middle east.

Carly Fiorina, a former Hewlett-Packard chief executive, said her chances of running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 are “very high.”


Speaking on “Fox News Sunday,” the 2010 Senate candidate said she is “higher than 90 percent” likely to enter the race, with an announcement coming in late April or early May.

While everyone is snickering at the GOP's versions of Dennis Kucinich entering the race, those far right radicals, Henry Kissinger and George Schultz have penned an op-ed that is generously described as skeptical of the moderate Barack Obama's deal/negotiations with Iran.

That is skeptical means they think it isolates the US against its allies in the middle east, promotes nuclear proliferation and likely will lead to eventual US involvement to contain a nuclear Iran. Smart power indeed.

But at least Obama didn't speak at Jerry Falwell's college.

My tax accountant called this morning to let me know I am going to have to send the Feds and State a check. My taxes went up pretty good and my guess is Obama had something to do with it.

If the dems end up running someone like Elizabeth Warren and she wins, I might end up spending my summers in Canada and find some nice place to hang out in the Winter.

Can you imagine after 8 years of Obama and then getting a follow up like Elizabeth "running bear" Warren?

Interesting question, but I think there is good reason for that. The Pauls are not conservatives or liberals in the way the public tends to group people as one or the other. They are libertarians, which means they are both conservative and liberal depending on whether it has to do with the government having power over personal choices or economic ones. They want the government out of the way on both sides (For the Paul's with the one exception of abortion. They are both pro-life.)

Whatever this graph shows is obviously influenced by whatever statements the maker of the graph has decided to include, or whatever they've had a chance to vote on in the House (Ron) or Senate (Rand). Ron and Rand Paul have made a lot of anti-war, anti-drug war, and anti-government spying/surveillance statements that would probably be classified here as liberal. I know they've also made some about taxes, government spending and limited government in general that you would think would be counted as "conservative," but maybe whoever did this counted fewer of those. Who knows. What you would not have ever heard them say is "let's tax or spend more" on anything.

And as far as official votes go, keep in mind the count is going to be limited to whatever the leadership in the House or Senate has allowed to be voted on. I'm going to postulate here that the Senate leadership is only allowing issues to come to a vote that have to do with trying to increase the size of government, so Rand votes with the Republicans there. And the conservative House leadership doesn't have any reason to bring anything to a vote which has to do with lessening government power on social issues (like drugs) where Ron would disagree with them, but then they are voting on things like taxes and cutting spending, where Ron is going to go with the GOP. So there you go.
