    • Nukes are on the table for Drumpf...

Donald Trump Won't Rule Out Using Nukes Against ISIS

      “They have to respect us.”

Donald Trump thinks that tactical nuclear weapons may be worth using in the war against the Islamic State.

In an interview with Mark Halperin and John Heilemann of Bloomberg, the Republican presidential frontrunner refused to rule out using tactical nuclear weapons in the war against ISIS.

“I’m never going to rule anything out—I wouldn’t want to say. Even if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t want to tell you that because at a minimum, I want them to think maybe we would use them,” he said.

I guess he is serious about killing the families of the terrorists and everything else.

I was watching this the other night:

Even though I learned about the devastation of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki attacks way back when, I was pretty startled to be reminded of the lives lost - I think they said 100k at Hiroshima and 80k at Nagasaki.

          • Obama sez it is wrong and un-american to target muslim neighborhoods... (Never mind that it is already happening:
            https://theintercept.com/2016/02/18/...e-in-new-york/ )

Obama: 'Wrong And Un-American' To Target Muslim Neighborhoods

During a press conference in Argentina on Wednesday, President Obama dismissed the call by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in the wake of the Brussels attacks to "patrol and secure" Muslim neighborhoods in America.

Obama said that an attempt to target of Muslim neighborhoods would be "wrong and un-American."

"As far as what some candidates have said, I think I've been very clear on this. One of the great strengths of the United States — and part of the reason why we have not seen more attacks in the United States — is we have a extraordinarily successful, patriotic, integrated Muslim-American community," the President said. "They do not feel ghettoized. They do not feel isolated. Their children are our children's friends, going to the same schools. They are our colleagues in workplaces. They are our men and women in uniform, fighting for our freedom ..."

But spying on Americans is cool. That is why it is called the "Patriot" Act.

Yea, they sure are - they are what would be fired from Arty now.

As far as I know the US doesn't deploy any megaton yield weapons any more. We can put a warhead within 10 ft of the aiming point - 180 kilotons is sufficient

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

Thats why, I suppose, the Chinese and the Russians are concentrating so much effort on developing the capacity to destroy our military grade GPS satellites.

That was long a policy of the USA. We never ruled nukes in or out. Nor did we ever say whether our military was even carrying them (remember the brouhaha about our navy being kept out of NZ ports becasue they declared themselves a nuke free zone and we refused to say whether or not our ships were carrying warheads). So, while Trump is a nut and I can't stand him, this particualr statement comports fairly well with long established american approaches to deterrence and strategy.

Sure. But what is completely nuts is the notion that nukes would work against a small and dispersed organization like ISIS.

yes. The very notion of tactical nukes, which we developed and deployed widely in the european theatre, always seemed like sheer lunacy to me. We are up in arms over Daesh's dismantling of Palmyra; just imagine what that place would look like if we lobbed a few "tactical" nukes at them.

                            • LOL. At Emory university someone used chalk and wrote pro Trump slogans on concrete steps on campus. Students have protested that they have been tramatized (sp) by this. University President basically agreed and will use security cameras to catch the culprits.

Excellent idea from college students to stop Trump
