Do people really think the US would be in the position it is economically if we were not a capitalistic society? SU is correct, socialism retards innovation. The risks/rewards of capitalism is what allows the US to be the innovator of most of the great inventions of the past decade. Sure, once they are invented they are manufactured in China and Malaysia, but there's a reason France isn't inventing state of the art technology.

This is pretty far away from calling the entire list bogus and then posting a link to your much shittier list from your first post. You live a lot better in Texas on $100k than in California on $110k.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostThat is still quite a bit different. Tons of countries missing from your first table.
Don't get me wrong: God Bless America and free enterprise!! We are right up there with oil-rich countries. But no need to fudge the data when the real data works just fine.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

CNN the other day called on a retired general to give his comments on Trumps water boarding comments. The General went off on a speech about how our army isn't trained to do what the enemy does. Our soldiers are trained to have solid discipline from the commander on down including the President. I believe our soldiersare without doubt the best in the world. They operate the best equipment
The General's last comment gave me pause. He said we don't fight wars the way the savages (or something like that do). The pause was, when was the last time we won a war? World War II. I certainly don't blame the soliers.
I blame the politicians and general public who put in my way of thinking unreasonable constraints on our winning.

Sure enough there were some countries left off the list, but why did you link TR nominal GDP list? You probably didn't know the difference between the nominal and PPP lists.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHere is another one for you: Find Ireland on that first table he posted and tell me what is wrong.

Looks like the US is kicking the crap out of the socialist countries...or at least the ones that aren't totally dependent on oil. I wonder how far Norway will fall in 2015 with crude prices so low."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Look at Singapore and Hong Kong (at least if you think Hong Kong is still kind of its own thing) -- why aren't we trying to be like them? Especially Singapore. Remember back in the day when that American kid painted some graffiti and Singapore sentenced him to a caning? Rather than being outraged, Americans seemed to encourage Singapore to carry out the punishment.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Americans love Singapore:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_P._Fay
Following Fay's sentence, the case received wide coverage by the U.S. and world media.[14] The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times ran editorials and op-eds condemning the punishment.[15] USA Today reported that caning involved "bits of flesh fly[ing] with each stroke."[16] This latter detail was apparently taken from descriptions (originally derived from a 1974 press conference)[17] of a much larger number of strokes, for more severe crimes such as rape and robbery.
Some commentaries treated the Michael Fay affair as a clash of cultures between Asian values and the differing view of human rights common in liberal Western countries.
Public opinion polls were divided, but mostly supportive of Fay's punishment.[18] A significant number of Americans were in favor of the caning, claiming that Singapore had a right to use corporal punishment and that the United States did not mete out severe enough punishment to its own juvenile offenders.[19] Others pointed out that once Americans go abroad, they are subject to the laws and penal codes of the country they visit.[20] The Singapore Embassy received "a flood of letters" from Americans strongly supporting Fay's punishment, and some polls showed a majority of Americans favored it.[21]Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I love Singapore but wouldn't want to live there. Benevolent despotic countries are great when the current leaders aren't corrupt. I beg to differ. We have won more than one war since WWII. I love Singapore. I have a buddy that lives there and it is amazing. Everything is immaculate and if you're walking home late at night, you might as well be strolling through Cambridge, Mass. And you can chew gum all you want- it's just not really available for purchase. And GOOD, because Gum chewing is disgusting. Cost of living is ridiculous, but if your company is putting up your living expenses, live the dream!"I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"
