I also like that Oliver can be self-effacing, describing himself as looking like a near-sighted parrot who works for a bank.
    That was awesome.
    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

      • Looks like the GOPs only hope is that either Rubio or Cruz or both can stay in long enough to keep trump from getting the needed number of delegates, however that has to also be a long shot.

Barring a shift towards Trump (which may be happening now ), I think Trump staying below 50% of the delegates is a distinct possibility. Then we would have to hope that there would be buyers' remorse from a significant enough portion of Trump supporters that he wouldn't make it through the convention. Such a scenario would probably leave the eventual nominee so weakened he would lose to Hillary, but it would avoid the humiliation of having Trump as a nominee and the long term damage to the party that would cause.

WOW, this tops the David Duke thing.

There should be a civic test one has to pass before being allowed to run for President. There also should be one, a much easier one, before you are allowed to vote.

Of course using words like 'rhetorical', 'insuperable', and 'effusions' in the first sentence is going to scare off any Donald Trump supporters from reading it. So it is pretty much a pointless article. Whether they deserve it or not, these people don't respond well to condescension. Just look at the comment section for the article.

                Of course. They are idiots.

When was the last time the National Review was so passionately opposed to the presumptive republican candidate? Crazy times.

Point of clarification. Are "they" the National Review or people who wouldn't have caught Trump's mistake?

                  • I used to read James Lileks years ago. I hadn't thought of him for some time until I saw a link to this today:

                    http://www.lileks.com/screed/030116.html

I think he is a good writer. You should read the whole thing, but the ending sums up my feelings pretty well:

The illiberalism of the Trump alt-right to bloody the nose of the media is the exact mirrored image of the left's desire to ban "hate speech." Like all the other things that make America unique, we took a shared belief in these values for granted until the clever people realized there was a way to reposition rights as burdens, as impediments.

The person who figures out a good way to sell you that usually has the solution, and it feels liberating.

To vote for Trump is to validate; to vote for Trump is to participate. He is a crass, gutter-tongued, vulgar man whose self-regard blinds his ability to understand his own ignorance. A man who casually encourages the worst, enables the mediocre, and wafts aloft cartoon concepts of American greatness with gusts of flatulent banalities. It takes a certain kind of historical illiterate not to realize his facial postures are literally aping a second-rate Italian fascist.

Sorry for taking the long way; could have just linked and agreed. But the author's points deserve interrogation. Short version: no. Long version: hell no. On the off chance history makes marks in a ledger: I will not support Trump if he is the nominee. I will not vote for him. The devil you know is still a devil, and worse yet: you don't really know him at all.

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
"You are an intemperate, unscientific poster who makes light of very serious matters.”

                    • Can't recall if I mentioned it here, but Trump can still run as an independent in over 40 states if he loses the nomination at the convention.

I have a feeling that a lot of people backed down to Trump until now because they were worried he would run as an independent. They thought he would just fade over time. That didn't work out.

The NY Court of Appeals -- which I believe is New York's supreme court -- made a ruling that the NY Attorney General can move forward with a fraud prosecution/lawsuit (I'm not sure if this is civil or criminal) against Trump relating to Trump University.

Just reflect for a moment on how we have ended up with Hillary, who should have at least received the Petraeus treatment and probably more and has been telling bald-faced lies all along the way, and Trump who is, as Rubio describes him, a con man writ large.

We have now had three two-term presidents in a row and I'm wondering if the next president is going to be a one termer. We're due for one.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                      • It appears after tonight that Rubio should probably drop out and back Cruz. I don't see Rubio's supporters going to Trump. Kasich should have dropped out after not getting any bounce from NH and pulling distant fourth seemingly everywhere. If Cruz drops out, I don't think his supporters will necessarily go to Rubio. Say what you want about Cruz, but he's a lot better than Donald Trump.

Carson needs to keep the ponzi scheme going, so I imagine he'll keep his campaign going well after the inauguration next year.

                          You've got it all wrong.

Trump has maintained the case is overblown.

"It's a small deal. Very small," he said at a campaign event over the weekend.

Trump has said he plans to reopen the operation when he wins the case.

I've never heard of an AG filing a civil action.
