  • People have been making comparisons between Kasich and Huntsman, but it seems to me that Kasich is a much better politician and Huntsman was just a scold.

I don't think Kasich has a path unless he can pick off a couple states (I believe Vermont and Massachusetts) and somehow survive everyone getting out except Cruz and Trump.

The problem seems to be Bush who still thinks he can pick up the later states. Again, I think a lot of the non-Trump voters will flock to the strongest guy left standing, which is Cruz. If you're stating down the barrel of a Trump nomination, are you going to vote for Bush because you really feel intrinsically that he would be a great president (kind of like how Bernie's supporters feel about him)? No one likes him and he doesn't have electability going for him either.

Rubio has to have surprising showing in South Carolina or he's done. That means he needs to come in 2nd. I don't see that happening. Trump will win SC and Cruz will come in 2nd.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

    • Does Bernie have a real path to the nomination? And does Bloomberg only get in the race if Bernie starts to look like the nominee?

I gotta say that Bernie/Trump debates would be freaking hilarious. And probably help ensure that Bloomberg would win...I would certainly vote for him if he got in.

If it came to Bernie/Trump/Bloomberg, I would put down the soda and vote Bloomberg. Although you could substitute just about any name for Bloomberg and my feelings would be the same.
One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

Kasich is much more impressive than Huntsman, IMO. Huntsman didn't show much leadership as governor.

I agreed with many of Huntsman's political ideas but can't stand him as a person or leader. Creepy guy in general.

There was a great chart out there showing the states with the highest percentages of white liberals-- Bernie's base. Iowa, Vermont, and New Hampshire were the top 3.

NH will be Bernie's high-water mark. He had to have landed crippling blows in both states to plot out a path to victory, and frankly, he has never been willing to try it. It'll be all Clinton from here on out.

It's a legal technicality which means they're allowed to continue to raise money. If they close the campaign they have to stop asking for money. Or something like that. It blew me away the other night when it was reported that Rick Santorum is half a million dollars in debt. Crazy.

                            • Another weird thing I think we're going to see if Sanders starts to lose quickly is that a sizeable portion of his supporters are going to run straight to Trump. This is less of an issue if Sanders hangs on.

I think the ideology is only slightly different between the two. The important factor for both groups of supporters is anger at the rich and powerful, anti-China, anti-Wall Street, anti-trade, and a promise of a strong authoritarian president who will punish the institutions and big businesses that are perceived to be at fault for the problems of those who feel small and powerless.

No, I do not see any risk of Bernie supporters going over to Trump should he lose the election. Those candidates have very little in common.
