  • Anyone who knows me well knows how truly heartbroken I am this morning. Heartbroken not because I hate Obama, but because I so love America. Heartbroken because I am a student of history, and because I know that America faces some dark days ahead. We have, as a nation, developed a dangerous combination of ignorance and arrogance. We have forgotten that we are governed by the laws of human nature, and that no amount of slick campaigning and crafty rhetoric appealing to our baser instincts will keep us from suffering the consequences of having violated the “laws of Nature and Nature’s God.” I believe that it is only on rare occasions when God proactively exerts his judgment, and that the vast majority of human suffering is simply God allowing us to experience the consequences of our decisions, hoping that we will learn from them rather than repeat them.

Yesterday, America repeated them. We have seen the consequences of Obama’s policies of massive spending and debt accumulation, which have led to high unemployment, weak growth, and an economic malaise. He promises to spend even more and accumulate more debt, which will only compound the problem. More suffering is ahead. America has in many ways immersed herself in immorality; we’ve slaughtered enough unborn children to nearly equal the populations of California and Texas. A majority of children are now born out of wedlock. We indulge in what feels good, rather than what is right. There is a price to pay for that.

Yet despite all this, I still have hope, even if that hope is a little less bright today than yesterday. With God all things are possible. The ancient empires fell under the weight of their own corruption, the same type of corruption we see in America today. Nineveh was also a corrupt city in danger of destruction, yet they heeded the words of the prophet Jonah and were saved by God’s mercy. If we can experience a spiritual awakening and repent, we can also save our nation.

So I ask all of my friends at this time to join me in prayer for President Obama, not because his actions have made him worthy of our praise, but because he is the leader that the people have chosen to direct the affairs of this nation for the next four years. Pray not for the success of his agenda, which I believe to be destructive, but that as the dark days unfold in which we feel the inevitable pain of these decisions, that he will be humbled, that he will turn his face towards God, and that his heart will be changed within him (that he might be “fundamentally transformed”, one might say). Pray that he can humble himself before God and become the greatest president has ever known. Offer this same prayer for the leaders of both parties from the national level to those in our own communities. And pray that God will have mercy upon us such that we can reverse this danger before we feel the full weight of its punishment.
Now that's how you do it, folks!

    • I DID work hard, extremely hard, and that makes this all the more painful. I went out of state three times this past month, taking time away from my wife and kids, to try and sway votes towards the cause of liberty. It failed miserably, and that is very painful. I told my wife, who held down the fort during my absences, that I felt I had to do this so that, should Obama be re-elected, I could honestly look at my children and grandchildren and testify that I'd done all within my power to save their future, and this republic.

Despair is one of Satan's greatest tools. He uses it to make us give up without a fight. George Washington faced far greater odds of success than we face today, and with God he was victorious in establishing the greatest nation the world has ever known. I will continue to fight for its restoration until I take my last breath. Remember one thing though...as the prophet Elisha and his companion looked out at the Syrian army massed against them, ready to visit destruction upon them, Elisha calmed his companion's fearful trembling and proclaimed the presence of the unseen hosts of God's army, assuring him that "They that be with us are greater than they that be with them." We must call upon God with more fervent prayer, and with greater repentance, and through Him all things are possible.
Last night we had the epic meltdowns. Today we are getting the philosophies of men, mingled with scripture.

Yes, my FB feed is now full of scriptures. It's only a matter of time before the ETB talks of the 60s come out again. I suspect that will happen when Obama starts on immigration reform.

            • I can now see an upside. Maybe more of the PC folks will be tired of living around wacko's and move out of Utah.

I have gotten tired of the elitist indignation at how backward the state is. Go find a job in one of those great states like California or Illinois.

I have been thinking a little more about this post. You seem to be saying that the most important thing to you is backing a winner, even if you have to compromise your integrity to do so. And that one should only support something they believe in after it gains a majority following (WTF?). I have news for you: posting lawn signs and arguing on the internet and everything else you do as an individual will have almost no effect whatsoever on the outcome of the next election. So I think your "irrelevant" criticism of Ted is irrelevant. At least Ted can have the satisfaction of maintaining his integrity.

                    • I guess it's because I only have 120 or so FB friends, but I saw virtually none of the weirdness or anger that's been presented in this thread. My oldest daughter (who lives in the Littleton, CO area that Romney needed to win big, but didn't) posted something this morning more reflective of my small circle of buddies.

It makes me sad to hear children saying they are afraid of our President. I look at their designer clothes and backpacks with packed lunches and hear about their full extracurricular calendars and know they are regurgitating things they've heard adults say, and it makes me sad to think about children across the globe who have legitimate reasons to use the word "fear" in reference to their leader. We live in a wonderful, amazing, blessed country, and I am grateful to live here, now and always.

And she probably heard that from one kid. So she is probably overreacting as well.

Why do we dislike people who have designer clothes and other nice things. Why are people who belong to Country Clubs to be despised.

I actually know why. I guess I would despise them too if they hadn't provided me with the ability to earn a good living over the years. I kind of feel guilty about having earned a good living knowing there are other who don't.
