    Gee... wonder what happened

There was no formal letter to Evans. The LDS Church did communicate with Evans, but verbally through a local stake president.

My dad has placed mechanics liens on church property before. I'm wondering if the brethren would ever think about fasting and praying (a more low level GA of course, maybe an area authority- are area authorities GAs?) about whether to pay the contractor so he could pay his subs.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I was about to agree with you, but then I saw that it was "titles" with an "l".
If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

I take it you haven't lived in Utah long (enough). You know there was a time when main st use to connect north and south temple in SLC. Somehow the church made that street vanish. Therefore, getting approval to build a tall building shouldn't be a problem.

The home owners should just let their homes/yards fall into disrepair. The church will come in and buy everything up to maintain the neighborhood.

This is not a spiritual matter. You can appeal to pathos by talking about humility and the need for more missionaires, that's fine. Ask people to let it slide for the sake of the work. But, calling on them to "sustain" the decision and by extension, the Q12, is beyond the pale for me.

I don't mind the Church taking these folks to court even to press its rights. No problem at all.

But, the moment they ask people to sustain their decision,

I have no problem with church funds being used to compensate those people to the tune of $100,000 each for the loss of their view. There's always a compromise available when one of the parties has more money than God.

This is so completely and utterly stupid. Ugh.

Does the church still have the policy of excommunicating adverse parties in litigation? Perhaps that was more rumor than policy, and perhaps it never would have applied here either.

This makes me a bit sick.
