Romney absolutely has a chance, a good chance, in Wisconsin. They elected Scott Walker and Ron Johnson (over Russ Feingold -- who's one of the more lovable liberals out there) in 2010, and they're both more conservative than Mitt Romney.

While the Dems think they can make headway in places like Arizona and then solidy things more in states like Nevada, Republicans think they can make headway in Wisconsin, Iowa and even Pennsylvania and Minnesota. All these states have a huge white population and I imagine the strategy is that they'll say the Democrats favor their urban liberal constituencies (minorities, environmentalists, social liberals) over their working class constituency. Come over to us and we'll give everyone the opportunity to earn enough so they can all have a chicken in their pots.

Wisconsin, is really, really white. In fact, I think it's more white than Utah. Rural, middle class and working class whites abandoned the Democratic party in the South, lower Midwest and the Mountain West and it's only a matter of time when they abandon them in the upper Midwest.

Michael Barone wrote a column about how demographic shifts are, while they're happening, presumed to continue into the foreseeable future -- but then they just stop.

Blacks migrated to the industrial North after the Civil War all the way through WWII and even into the 50s. Then it stopped in the 1960s. Turns out Civil Rights legislation made living in the South more tenable (and, quite honestly, I wonder if LBJ's War on Poverty also played a role).

Supposedly, the immigration of Hispanics into the country has largely stopped. The presumption has been that it would just continue. But apparently Mexico's economy is doing okay right now and Mexico is now a majority middle class country. With that said, I also think over time Hispanics will melt into the majority like past waves of immigrants. In the 1920s, no one thought the Jews or the Italians would ever fit in, that certainly didn't last. Hispanics already are governors of states, Senators and cabinet members.

I wonder if 4 of my grandsons and 1 granddaughter will prefer to be called hispanic or white hispanic. I hope they never do anything stupid. Then it won't be their choice, they will be white hispanic.

I'm equating the OWS crowd with the Madison crowd, and that could be a mistake. They certainly appear to be very similar. And of course I'm not suggesting that the unions are going out and funneling drugs to these people, nor are they intending that any money that ends up in the hands of these professional protestors go to drugs. But some of these professional protestors are most certainly drug addicts, have you ever been around them before?
