Then you really shouldn't have any problem with what the governor did in Wisconsin.Originally posted by frank ryan View Postno i do not
He didn't outlaw unions.
He made it unlawful to FORCE people to join them.
Huge difference.
And it's only public sector unions. Private sector unions can still force people to join them. How American.
Anyone who wants to join a union can still join one. Funny though, that 50% of people are opting OUT of them...
The governor SHOULD be lauded for freeing the public employees of the state of Wisconsin that were held hostage, trapped and forced into union membership so that they could earn a living.

Merkel should officially come out and just say, "Ας φάνε παντεσπάνι"Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostI don't know much about or care about the union issue but the issues of cushy public sector jobs and out of control government spending are huge and I'm glad the voters came down on the right side of these debates.
A huge part of what bankrupted Greece was government jobs that paid in many cases twice what equivalent private sector jobs paid and almost twice as much as what Germany paid equivalent workers. Now Germany is supposed to bail the Greeks out?

What do you think the outcome would of been if he had done it similar to Walker? I think he would of risked being recalled and possibly lost. So I see why he./they went the direction they did.. I still believe if he had kept the Police and Firefighters out of it that he would of had a similar outcome as Wisky even at the ballot..Originally posted by YOhio View PostThere were quite a few material differences between the Wisconsin and Ohio policies that led to the discrepancy in outcomes. First, the time factor. Walker had about 15 months to show demonstrable benefit while Kasich had about 4 months. Second, the method. Walker passed his policy a part of a budget resolution while Kasich and the Ohio Senate rewrote standalone state collective bargaining regulations. This led to the difference in the respective processes, ballot issue vs. recall. Because Ohio's legislation isolated it from the budget, it could go to ballot and the unions moved quickly so Kasich couldn't have adequate time to defend it based on results. He also faced the reality that it was an odd-year election with very low turnout, which was a boon to the motivated unions who are adept at getting people to the polls. Wisconsin faced a different situation where the only option they had was to recall the governor and elect someone who would repeal the legislation, a much lengthier and more controversial process.
I doubt Kasich will touch this again during this term. Over the past year he's put all his chips on Jobs Ohio and needs to focus his energy on getting that to work before taking on any new controversy.
I think Kasich's approach was likely the best approach because it is not tied to a Gov's term..
And it looks like you are right.. Kasich makes statement on Wisky.
What are your thoughts on the "Right-to-Work" rights that may possibly come to Ohio's ballot..
http://www.dispatch.com/content/stor...or-kasich.htmlLittleton is leading the effort to place on the ballot a right-to-work measure that would ban mandatory union membership and dues statewide, similar to the ban included for public employee unions in Walker’s legislation. Kasich has refused to support Littleton’s effort, although Romney has championed right-to-work laws.Last edited by dabrockster; 06-07-2012, 05:17 AM.
