Reminds me of the mom on Desperate Housewives who continued to breastfeed her 5-year-old because it kept her skinny.Originally posted by Jacob View PostIsn't that the real reason this mommy is still breastfeeding hear 4 yo?What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

For the record, breastfeeding at 3 is fine by me. To each her own. I stopped at 2 with my kids.
I also co-slept and baby-wore, so I guess that means I was practicing "attachment parenting," though I never specifically subscribed to that philosophy. I just found it easier to have my babies in bed when they still nursed at night than to wake up and haul my butt across the house to feed them. The sling was a tool for multi-tasking.What's to explain? As a counterpoint to attachment parenting, there is also detachment parenting, in which the child is taught that if they can't keep up, they're on their own.

My kids have been raised pretty much the same way. They were only nursed until 15 months and 17 months, though.Originally posted by marsupial View PostFor the record, breastfeeding at 3 is fine by me. To each her own. I stopped at 2 with my kids.

When you wear your baby, unfortunately, this can happen:

Those shorts look machine washable. My daughter leaked all over me on her blessing day. Her silk dress was ruined and my skirt was dry clean only.Originally posted by Slim View PostMy kids have been raised pretty much the same way. They were only nursed until 15 months and 17 months, though.

Everyone has something. I think attachment parenting is great and applaud those for their passion.Originally posted by wally View Posti think that people get really "into" these types of obsessions because they are bored with life as is without some sort of cause to crusade for.
I get rubbed the wrong way when anyone tries to push their parenting philosophy on me, especially when they assert that their way is the only way. And both sides of the issue dish it out. Attachment parents get all sorts of flack for doing things their way. For example, when I was co-sleeping I'd get crap from other parents who thought sleeping with your baby was absolutely the worse thing you could do. They acted superior because their baby "never, not even once" slept in their bed. Then, I know there are some attachment folks that like to act like you're a monster if you don't immediately attend to your baby when it cries.
I say kids are resilient. Give them love the best way you know how and they'll probably be just fine. What's to explain? We all get bored with life and need a cause to crusade for. whether its parenting style, exercise, sport, religion, politics, fashion or whatever.
My crusade is against all subtlety and nuance. I am a crusader for telling it like it is!
What is your cause falafel? What is your crusade?

I am definitely a lactivist though. It is best. But I try not to be pushy or judgmental to those moms who choose to bottle feed instead.
My big issue is public breastfeeding. It is impossible for a mom to be successful at breastfeeding if she is forced to hide in the bathroom every time her baby is hungry. And if she has an older child to take care of along with the baby, then forget it. A mom isn't going to last long breastfeeding if she feels like she can never leave the house. People who think breastfeeding is obscene, lewd or inappropriate in public need to re-evaluate their position. It is natural, normal, nonsexual and absolutely necessary. If it makes you feel funny to see a mom breastfeeding, then look away. What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life.
