Child abuse on the Time cover?

I'm guessing it will lead to a lot of self-abuse among the youth when they get their parents' copy in the mail."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

Anyone who thinks this is porn needs to spend more time on the internet.Originally posted by Chachi View PostI don't understand how this is child abuse or porn...she's simply breastfeeding."More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

This reminds me of a story that a buddy of mine who served in Brazil told me. He was tracting in a poor neighborhood, and they got into a house to teach a woman. After about 15 mins, a kid (he guessed about 6 y/o) comes home from school, walks over to the mother, wordlessly begins unbuttoning her blouse, then takes one out and gets some straight from the tap.
Anyone who's served in Latin America should be immune to any feelings of awkwardness about public breastfeeding, as it's completely normal to do so (I will admit at giggling the first time it happened around me while sitting in church). Though, a child old enough to read and write would still get my attention.
The kid nurses for about five minutes, then gets up and goes outside. My buddy and his comp finish teaching about ten minutes later. They say their goodbyes, walk outside, and there's the same kid sitting down smoking a cigarette."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. FYI, there is a broader national discussion taking place about whether or not the practice is abusive, and whether or not the cover photo is inappropriate. I'd guess that chachi, like myself, was addressing the larger debate, and not whether CUF's own Jacob intended to make a joke about child abuse in his choice of thread titles.Originally posted by Jacob View PostAnyone who read the initial post would have realized that the child abuse title was a joke.

You're spot on rf. My only issue with the story is the title on the cover "Are you mom enough". There are woman that can't or don't breastfeed and that doesn't mean they aren't mom enough. It's not for everyone but for me it is. It works for me. To each their own.

I cancelled my Time subscription right after the 2004 election when I realized that they were less concerned about reporting and more concerned with sensational covers to sell magazines. That magazine has gone from an icon to an also-ran. The only good thing left is Joel Stein.Originally posted by Chachi View PostYou're spot on rf. Not to pile on, but I was confused by Moliere's comment as well.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostIn the interview she said her son was in the process of self weening but that she is still breastfeeding him. I guess you think she is lying.

I nursed to 2. I wasn't thin as a rail, unfortunately. But like magic right when I wean the last 5 lbs disappear. My friend is the opposite. She gets super-skinny when she nurses and then gains back 10 lbs when she weans. Every woman is different.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostNot to pile on, but I was confused by Moliere's comment as well.

It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

On the SNL news update, Seth Meyers noted that if Time really wanted to make the photo controversial, it would've photo shopped the chair out of the picture...which I thought was kind of funny."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Yeah. Society needs to get over being prude about something that is not sexual. It is easy to forget that Victorian social moors that drive so much of our thinking on these issues are a relatively recent innovation. They are best let go of.Originally posted by Mrs. Funk View PostNothing screams "BREASTFEEDING!" more to me than a gigantic nursing cover. I breastfeed in public fairly frequently and it's not difficult to be discrete without totally covering up. Whether to cover up or not should be a matter of personal comfort for moms. I don't care a jot how or where women care to breastfeed, but I do find the hooter hiders impractical for my own purposes since my kiddo writhes and kicks and bats at anything that covers his face and has since he was 2 days old.
As to the picture itself, it's purposely photographed to be provocative. The photographer indicated as much in an interview. The angling and the big kid on a chair next to his svelte mom exaggerates his size even further.
It's not child abuse and it's not incest. Move along, people.
