Oh. My mistake. Who was it? I want to gang up on that person now.

Nothing to see here, people. Just me and my quarterly brief outburst.

I'm suggesting DIRECTLY that you're unlikely to find a cancer research organization that would admit to being opposed to any form of low-income cancer screening clinics.
It takes all of fifteen seconds to find, via an advanced google search, that the term "Planned Parenthood" doesn't appear once on the Huntsman Cancer Institute's web site. While they do appear to accept grants from the Komen foundation, I'm reasonably confident that money that goes to the Huntsman Cancer Institute does not go to Planned Parenthood. My wife and I will therefore consider donating to them instead of to Komen. Is that extreme? Yes or no?

Pledging to simply "respond" to something is also a non-response to the question. You haven't really gone out on a limb by saying if somebody took that position here, you would definitely react in some manner. Would your reaction include calling that position "extreme" and/or "unbecoming" of a "moderate" or "well-rounded" person? Yes or no?

I don't intend to be. In fact, while I rarely agree with your opinions when you do share them, I am glad that you do, because I consider your viewpoint to be underrepresented in populations such as ours, and to an extent that is probably to our detriment. I'm genuinely glad you're including your voice in the collective conversation. That said, I do think you could do better at responding to points with which you disagree. Probably I could too.

You're missing my entire point, it seems. I never said anything about Huntsman Cancer Institute donating to Planned Parenthood. You're taking a narrow view on what I said, which was to ask if you're confident that Huntsman Cancer Foundation donates to ANY organization that provides funding to any other organization that supports low-income free breast exam clinics while still supporting a woman's choice to receive an abortion. Maybe Huntsman doesn't donate to Planned Parenthood directly, but do you know any of the organizations they DO donate to end up donating money to any organization LIKE Planned Parenthood? If you're taking a principled stand against Komen's donations to Planned Parenthood for the express purpose of providing a service unrelated to abortion, are you willing to stand against Huntsman donating money to [fill in charity name here] who donates money to [fill in other charity name here] who donates money to Planned Parenthood (or some other charity clinic that provides cancer screenings as well as birth control)? How far down that rabbit hole are you willing to go to protect your principles?

Here's another question: What if Huntsman Cancer Foundation accepted a gift from Komen now. Why does that not offend your principled stance on the matter?

I think this is one of the better articles I've read in recent recollection about the business of breast cancer fundraising. I don't really have a comment on the Planned Parenthood thing.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. I think you're splitting hairs, Tim. By that logic we would probably never give any money to any organization. For example, my brother won't shop at Home Depot because they didn't criticize a gay rights' parade for altering the Home Depot logo to somehow support gay rights. So, he goes to Lowe's, but I'm sure that Lowe's probably gives to someone somewhere that he dislikes. ACE too. Everyone disagrees with everyone.

Paying tithing to the Church when you find Prop 8 reprehensible is a very similar issue. Each person can establish their own personal, "that's too much" level of reasoning to not support an organization.

Awesome article, and for my friends who have or have had breast cancer, it rings completely true.

Not one of them things SGK is anything but a craven money hungry organization who has a care in the world about the experience of women with BC.

In fact here is what one friend wrote on her blog last night:

"Regardless of who is on what side or not, I will never donate another dime to this Foundation. It has in fact been the small non-profits like "The Women's Resource Cancer Center" who unexpectedly sent me a $300 emergency fund check, and "The Wellness Group" who offer counseling, yoga, nutrition experts, mindfulness, various classes, and an extensive library, and then some, free of charge to all cancer patients and their caretakers. I have received endless calls from organizations asking me what they can do, from providing travel assistance to and from appts. to housecleaning, to weekly calls just to make sure I'm okay (I'm not). Never have I received a call from Koman except from people soliciting money on their behalf, and I have yet to see a cure. But ******...I understand your annoyance with repeating rumors that have not been validated....even if they aren't a "real" news source...I'm just really hating Komen right now.....One last plug to The American Cancer Society...they pay for my gas to and from appointments."

BTW, this is from a woman who has run her own business for 15 years, as a contract paralegal for high volume law firms. Carried health insurance for her and her children, very successful, but BC has broke her. Even for someone with money in the bank, and health, insurance, BC has wiped her out.
