This puts the Nadine Wimmer thread in perspective
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I was hoping it was a more focused specialty. I was thinking it would be cool to be a highly-paid consultant specializing in laser-focused annual proclamations at public events. Be the guy that gets to speak famous lines at popular events. Fly in, say your line, collect your check, go home.

Explain those weird audit procedures at the Oscars.

          Lots of possibilities.
I don't know...carrying a sceptre around sounds kind of cool.

And does "maintaining order" mean that you get to tell the legislators to shut up now and then? That might be kind of cool too.

You need to take that up with PaloAltoCougar. It was his speech.

Hey America, look at all of the things that we have prevented Obama from doing! These are important issues, and we will stop obstructing them if you vote Republican. Also, we will spare the life of this kitten:

OF THE CENTRAL PARK WARD!!!!", whereupon I would enter the chapel, shake hands with the members lucky enough to have grabbed an aisle seat, high five the deacons and priests behind the table, and step up to the podium. I saw nothing in the HOI to discourage this.
I think I remember those. It got awkward when you had Sister Peterson on the stand to highlight that she paid more in tithing than her boss, Brother Johnson.

It was the morality stats that probably made everyone uncomfortable. I'm sure he was able to lighten it up, though: "By the time they are priests, nearly every one of our young men have experimented with masturbation. That's why I strongly encourage them to wash their hands thoroughly before they prepare the sacrament."

It actually was a great speech. If I were a communications prof I'd give it an "A." I heard most of it on the radio while driving and was really impressed by the sheer oratory of the thing. As a poli sci, history, or economics prof, of course, I'd give it a "D-."

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

While I didn't vote for the guy, I really didn't mind that he won. I believed he may have been a far lefty in the past, but that was his path to high office in Chicago.

Listening to him campaign I got a sense he was going to govern more as a center left guy, much like Clinton. I could have handled that. Anything that has a semblance of center in it beats the "far" whatever guys.

What a dissapointment. He is a excellent family role model, but as a politician he is a flim flam man. He said something about government should only do what people can't do for themselves. Great line but do any of you really believe he believes that. Or, maybe he has a vastly different view of what people can do for themselves.

Fair, fair, fair. Sure, but who determines fair. The only person I trust to decide what a fair outcome is, is God. I don't mean someone saying what God thinks is a fair outcome, but what he actually says when we are on the other side.

You may think I am a fanatic when I say this, but this guys policies and his ability to manipulate through words is downright scary.

I actually think Obama has been way more centered that most people expected given his track record in IL.

I don't think it is because he has wanted to be. He isn't calling the republicans obstructionists for nothing.

When he had the dems in control, look what he got done. I wouldn't call his accomplishments centered.

I would say his rhetoric does sound centered, actions are another matter.

Exactly. Look at what he does, not what he says.

Of course Republicans are not happy with what he has done. When you are somewhere in the middle you make both sides that are firmly entrenched unhappy. Obama has may critics on the left that feel he has not been as far left as they would like. I think that is the way it should be. I don't look to republicans to tell me if Obama is politically left-center, I look to pissed off democrats.
