Fantastic speech. I know it is basically a campaign speech but that was a fairly politically center message. One thing has not changed. He can really deliver a great speech.

I wouldn't have expected a partisan speech tonight. Tonight was a safe message that wouldn't arm the right with anything they can aim at him in the election.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostFantastic speech. Our President gave a wonderful speech tonight. As usual, the constant applause and standing is annoying. Worst part of any SOTU address, regardless of political affiliation.
Who is the dude that gets to yell into the room when the POTUS enters? That is a pretty cool job. Does he have any other responsibilities? What is his title?Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

The State of the Union is a joke. There is very little information, if any at all, regarding the current state of the Union shared in these speeches.
They are nothing more than political theater.
They are reason for all the power brokers in D.C. to get together pat each other on the back.
What is said has so little to do with reality.
It's just a play put on for the public.
Yes, this is my opinion of Republican-delivered SOTU addresses, too.
The head honcho stands up and says, more or less, "Things are good...better than they were last time I or my predecessor stood up. They could be better...if we spend more money doing _________."

I've always dug the guy, too. While serving as pastor of our local congregation, we did a kind of State of the Ward Sacrament Meeting each year. I thought it would be cool to wait in my office until time for Sacrament Meeting to begin, have our 90 year-old usher close the doors as the prelude music wound down, and then have him open them up, step just inside, and announce, "BROTHERS AND SISTERS, THE BISHOP... OF THE CENTRAL PARK WARD!!!!", whereupon I would enter the chapel, shake hands with the members lucky enough to have grabbed an aisle seat, high five the deacons and priests behind the table, and step up to the podium. I saw nothing in the HOI to discourage this.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostOur President gave a wonderful speech tonight. As usual, the constant applause and standing is annoying. It would be fun to stand and applaud every few minutes as you announced reform after reform...Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostI've always dug the guy, too. Bummer. Security detail, carrying sceptres around, maintaining order....That sounds like too much work.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View Post
I was hoping it was a more focused specialty. I was thinking it would be cool to be a highly-paid consultant specializing in laser-focused annual proclamations at public events. Be the guy that gets to speak famous lines at popular events. Fly in, say your line, collect your check, go home.
Yell at the State if the Union.
Tell people to start their engines at the Indianapolis 500.
Explain those weird audit procedures at the Oscars.
Lots of possibilities.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
