Want to know what is MUCH MUCH more creepy? Besides SU seeing nonexistent flirting and nonexistent descriptions of personal sexual activity coming from a minor? The conversations that 13-yo girls have about sex, sluts, sexuality, reasons why someone might or might not have sex, how to respond to boys' sexual advances, etc. I'd prefer that a child of mine have this girl's view about sex and sexuality than the typical 13-yo girl's view of the same.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostThat video is creepy. BTW, it isn't where I gather my evidence of what 13-yo girls are really like, but some folks may remember the movie Thirteen that came out a few years ago, and its depiction of a group of girls working through the trials of that age. It is a good movie, and one that nicely contextualizes this girl's musings.

That's odd how you keep going after SU. Seems a little desperate.Originally posted by RobinFinderson View PostWant to know what is MUCH MUCH more creepy? This is the thing I'm not understanding about the push back you are getting. Thinking that 13 year old girls don't talk about this and understand a great deal is naive. I would rather she know something about it from her parents than her friends. I don't know where the idea of showing porn to little kids came into the conversation and I don't support that, but I am a big proponent of being very frank with children about sex and their bodies. I don't want them to feel shame about either thing.Originally posted by RobinFinderson View PostWant to know what is MUCH MUCH more creepy? In many societies, including our own, the luxury of adults having a separate bedroom where they can have sex is either non-existent or recent. Children have been seeing, or at least hearing, their parents have sex for ages. I don't plan to have sex in front of my children but the idea that if they saw that it would result in a loss of "innocence" is socially constructed. I'm not really sure what innocence in this context means or what harm we are talking about them suffering from its loss.
Robin I'm glad you posted this link. I think part of the issue is that the idea that slut shaming is bad and that it leads to rape culture is not immediately intuitive to everyone. Particularly in cultures that highly prize modesty and chastity it may be counter intuitive to think that strong social disapprove of promiscuousness might have unintended consequences.

Ah yes. The reactions here are a result of everyone being too dumb to understand her message.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostRobin I'm glad you posted this link. Yeah I was afraid my comment might draw that response. I include my self in that. It is counter-intuitive to me as well. I don't think it has anything to do with intelligence. Not in your case anyway.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostAh yes. The reactions here are a result of everyone being too dumb to understand her message.

So great. Let me hear it from a junior at Boston College or wherever or even a high schooler (over 16 please). Not from a 13 year old.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostThis is the thing I'm not understanding about the push back you are getting. lol wait a minute. You're the one saying the rest of us need to get over the fact that 13 year olds can be just as sexually sophisticated as adults and that's normal. Again, it's clear that the supposed attraction of this is that she's 13 but acting and talking like she's 23. That's the crux of it.Originally posted by RobinFinderson View PostNot as odd as describing normal 13-yo mannerisms as 'coquettish.'When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

And by the way, as I think about this more, saying that cultural influences make things counter-intuitive to someone does not suggest that anyone is stupid. I don't actually think that is a fair inference to draw. I'll unpack that if you want.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostAh yes.
