Let them continue with the convincing. Early results suggest Ryan already has given his candidate the lowest "bounce" of any VP nominee in recent history:

It might be thought that a one-point gain is better than nothing. But vice-presidential announcements in past elections have also produced bounces in the polls, and they have usually been larger, averaging about five percentage points. Mr. Ryan is underperforming so far on that basis.

Likewise, polls conducted on the personal favorability of a new vice-presidential candidate are typically strong at first, with the public initially saying they like the candidate by two to one or three to one. Mr. Ryan’s favorability numbers are only slightly better than break even.

The other problem for Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan is that polling bounces are, by definition, impermanent and can sometimes represent a high-water mark for the new ticket. As the campaign evolves, and the initial surge of enthusiasm for a candidate fades, a running mate’s unfavorable ratings typically increase faster than his favorable ones do. It is possible that Mr. Ryan could have net negative favorability ratings by Election Day, as Mr. Romney does now.

But Mr. Ryan was not a choice made to win a popularity contest...

My view is that the choice of Mr. Ryan will reduce Mr. Romney’s chances of winning the election relative to some of the alternatives. But there is a heck of a payoff if it works.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

                • Debbie Wasserman Shitlz has now move solidly into the lead on my "B" list.

Pelosi and Boxer have to take a back seat.

Any of you see the interview she did with Anderson Cooper where he challenged her e-mail attacking Romney as "extreme" on abortion. I guess she backed it up with some reference to the L A times.

Cooper pointed out she had misquoted the times and asked if she basically would take it back. She, as is her style, went on and on about Romney being extreme on abortion. Anderson persisted and she continued and even when presented with actual proof said she hadn't lied because basically her premise is right. In other words if I believe my premise is right, I can lie all I want in order to convince someone of my premise.

This is what scares me about politicians and I dare say some prominent progressives (lib dems) have it down to a science. Republicans stutter and stammer when caught, some of the dems like Ms Shitlz go right on as if the conscience button has been turned off.

I don't understand a) how she became the chair of the party and b) why they continue to allow her to speak for the party/president.

It's to make Biden look smarter, who in turn is around to make Obama look smarter. Them problem is, they're still trying to find someone to make DWS look smarter.

That's as credible a theory as I've heard to date.

That's awesome. Romney is "disingenuous" because he claims to support abortion under certain circumstances but also claims to support that party platform that doesn't do so.

But the Democratic Party is completely honest and true in their efforts to let everyone know about what Romney stands for...and feels the weight of this duty so heavily that they will meet the obligation even if it requires lying to do so.

I hate to feed your prejudices like this but many more Dems are lawyers than Repubs. Tougher to get one off message.
