Needless to say, that vile Delbert L. Stapely letter to George Romney was released to the public by Mitt Romney's campaign. The George Romney Wikipedia site, no doubt well tended by the Romney family and Romney campaign, highlights George's stellar civil rights record, and his courageous stance against the LDS Church's pressure that he oppose black civil rights.Originally posted by YOhio View PostWatching you convince yourself into voting for Romney has been fun to watch. During the last election he was as pernicious as can be. A few months ago he was no different than Obama. Now he's simply not a Mormon candidate. As a Romney fan, I hope others in your situation come around to this line of thinking, however faulty it may be.
Romney's effort to contextualize his LDS membership is the main reason his reference to Battlefield Earth as his favorite book was so funny. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Big endorsement for Romney.Originally posted by YOhio View Post
As an added bonus, the linked article showed "then and now" photos of Sinead O'Connor and Dolly Parton.
But seriously, it's just a matter of time before Jeb Bush and others start getting in line behind Romney. I like Cain, he's the candidate du jour (my french sucks), but his almost complete lack of political experience would hinder him as a national candidate. Perry, quite honestly, seems to me that he would be a disaster as a national candidate. 1.9 GPA, a ranch called N******head, member of a hillbilly church, reminds everyone of a dumber version of W. and he's terrible in the debates.
So that leaves Romney, and the king makers in the GOP will start realizing this pretty soon.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

'Will start?'
Romney is the establishment candidate. The fact that Karl Rove attacked Perry's Pastor over his 'mormons aren't christians' comment on the TV interview shows over the weekend is proof of this.

It looks like Mitt has also borrowed Christie's, um, balls:
"These type of religious matters have nothing to do with the quality of somebody's ability to lead," Christie said. "Any campaign that associates itself with that type of conduct is beneath the office of president of the United States."
Romney piled on, giving his strongest comments yet on Robert Jeffress's description of Mormonism as a "cult."
"I would call upon Gov. Perry to repudiate the sentiment and the remarks," Romney said, alleging that Perry had "selected" Jeffress to introduce him at the Values Voter Summit on Friday.
That's not quite right: As POLITICO reported Friday, the Family Research Council selected Jeffress for the speaking slot and the Perry campaign signed off.
But the newly forceful pushback from Romney and his endorser shows that the former Massachusetts governor is increasingly comfortable raising the stakes in the debate over his faith. The bet here is that Perry will suffer more, because one of his supporters attacked Mormonism, than Romney will for simply being Mormon.

It looks like there is not as much anti-Mormon "bigotry" out there as some Mormons like to suppose. People will vote for Romney if he shows he does not believe harmful or irrational things. He has done a good job of doing that, and I'm sure that has been a major focus of his campaign (how ironic that the Delbert Stapely letter turns out to be a valuable asset to the Mitt Romney campaign). As UtahDan and othes including Richard Dawkins note, religion should not receive special protection against criticism for holding harmful or irrational views. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I just want to go on record saying that I will totally vote for Romney over Obama. I have two reasons for this.
1) Romney is my 2nd cousin once removed.
2) Romney is a closet liberal. That which may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. -C. Hitchens

Romney just can't help but come off like a Stake President at the ward activity. He's there, smiling, trying to show that he can be fun, but he is incapable of actually hanging out with anyone (and everyone knows this).Last edited by Sleeping in EQ; 10-11-2011, 05:15 PM.We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

I tend to agree with you--his roboticity is a huge problem. That said, I get the sense that even if he were super charismatic, you'd find another negative Stake President analogy to apply to him. Your disdain is palpable.Originally posted by Sleeping in EQ View PostRomney just can't help but come off like a Stake President at the ward activity.
