Yes, I don't think I would have big problems with that description. MLK's foresight and leadership helped us all avoid what could have been a very violent chapter in our history.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostNot sure if people will understand what I mean by this but in many ways he was a prophet.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I've never been there, but the FDR memorial would have to rank last in my book.
I didn't list it in my top five most important, but the Vietnam Memorial is pretty awesome. I mean, it's simple, a wall with a bunch of names on it, but I remember being quite moved."Remember to double tap"

I'm going with Jefferson's. That's where I proposed. She said yes. Good memorial.Originally posted by creekster View PostAre we voting for what is most memorable as a memorial or what is most important as an event or person that is memorialized?"More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

This is surprising for some intellectual wanker who probably hates the Constitution and all it represents that we as Americans hold dear.Originally posted by Solon View PostI'm going with Jefferson's. He loves it the most because Jefferson knew the value of gettin' busy.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostThis is surprising for some intellectual wanker who probably hates the Constitution and all it represents that we as Americans hold dear.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I would put the WWII memorial in my top 5 if I didn't think it was so poorly executed."In conclusion, let me give a shout-out to dirty sex. What a great thing it is" - Northwestcoug

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

I actually dig the WWII memorial quite a bit. It looks kind of simple and plain but there is a ton of information in the details that most would never know or understand without a park ranger to explain it all.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostI would put the WWII memorial in my top 5 if I didn't think it was so poorly executed.
I didn't choose it, but I love the Korean War Memorial. It is very haunting."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

The one that had the most emotional impact on me was Viet Nam with Arlington coming in a close second. I guess knowing the face behind one of the names on the wall has that effect. the other three were Lincoln, Washington and Jefferson. I haven't seen WW II or MLK, but the others were all impressive.
I may be small, but I'm slow.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

If we are defining "important" as a "must see" then the Vietnam Memorial IMHO is the most important. Also IMHO its the greatest monument ever created. In the smithsonian there is a display of all the things people have left at the vietnam memorial. I get chills just thinking about it.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostWhat the hell? LOL. I assure you my wanking is all physical, not at all intellectual. Besides, Jefferson was a dissident - the Declaration of Independence is a better snapshot of what he was about.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostThis is surprising for some intellectual wanker who probably hates the Constitution and all it represents that we as Americans hold dear.
On the inside of the rotunda of the Jefferson memorial is inscribed:
"I have sworn upon the altar of God Eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."
I've always loved that line."More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

I wasn't sure how to vote - so just went with my gut.
I haven't seen the MLK memorial - obviously since it is just now opening. But I get it's importance. I will admit to not voting for it - just because I figure a memorial has to have actually been around to be important. But I would've put it 6th given the chance. And to be honest - I don't think it will take long to make my top 5.
Vietnam and Arlington are war memorials I picked.
I think the Vietnam memorial was very important for the Vietnam veterans to heal after the way that they were treated by many post-war.
Arlington is Arlington. I can't explain it.
