Delusional? Don't you think murder may be slightly more prevelant were it legal?
I think I might become a practioner if that were the case. As it stands now there is very little chance of that, doubly so since I don't feel the need to hide a popgun on my person.

I can see what you libs mean about that warm fuzzy feeling you claim to get when you pay taxes - I definitely see warm fuzzy possibilities for me were my tax dollars to support this.

I don't misunderstand you in the slightest. Another poster asked me for an original idea on the issue and I posted one I have held for a couple of decades. Unless you are "purposely" trying to misunderstand me, I challenge you to show where I stated I had any "right" to choose anything for anybody else. What I have got the right to is an opinion. You have the right to disagree. You shouldn't put words in my mouth, although you probably have the right.

No one should have the right to bear handguns.

Except those who take the time to get a concealed handgun license (CHL) by:

(1) getting finger printed for the FBI and state law enforcement

(2) demonstrating proper gun handling safety and target proficiency on a gun range

(3) passing a written exam on the current gun laws

and renewing this every five years.

(i.e. what is required for a Texas CHL)

Your typical gun-banging criminal won't normally do this. Therefore, a CHL makes it real easy for a cop to know who are the "good guys" and the "bad guys", IMHO.

BTW, states like Arizona (where no CHL is required) and Utah (where it is fairly easy to get CHL) are not strict enough with their handgun laws, IMHO.

Hows this: 2 years to total handgun ban. Government buys and destroys all handguns at pre-approved prices. Collector and rare guns included, at prices set by American gun experts. After that date anyone caught in posession of a handgun is arrested. Anyone using a handgun in the commission of a crime gets an enhanced penalty.*

Rifles and shotguns (and muzzle loading muskets! the most advanced weapon the founding fathers posessed when the 2nd amendment was written) are still legal, hence some of you can still cling to that God-given right just as tightly as ever.

I'm still waiting to hear how my Browning Auto-5 isn't a better machine to defend me and mine than a Glock. But I can't sneak it into a theatre or a bank.

um whats the point of getting rid of the handguns again? to satisfy some fantasy view that making handguns illegal will somehow prevent criminals from using handguns to commit crimes?

Who said anything about force? The only one forcing anything here is when you force me to live in fear of being shot because you're walking around with a gun.

Folks such as Viking (And perhaps you as well?) would force people to not be able to have a handgun. You living in fear of being shot is irrational because I have no reason to shoot you, unless you put my life in danger.

Heard a radio interview today from a Norweigian saying that not only is there no death penalty in Norway but that the maximum sentence is 21 years. The expert said that functionally meant 12 to 14 years. Given this crackpot's age, he'll barely be middle aged by the time he walks.

That's a shame that Norway doesn't deal with violent criminals in a more appropriate manner. By more appropriate, I mean either the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Active shooters are often cowards. They purposely target those least likely to shoot back.

Which is exactly why law abiding citizens shouldn't be discouraged or forced to not be able to carry.
