I wish you would stop hassling us.

    • TKD,

You and I made the same mistake. We came in guns-a-blazing, probably hoping to make some sort of impression (although, I have to admit, I don't think I sounded quite as batshit crazy as you...lol).

I'm still in the shithouse here, but I can cuss and talk BYU sports and Mormonism, which essentially no other forum offers. I'd take a break, and maybe tone it down a few notches. This is an incredibly tight-knit community (one I'm not part of, just to be clear), that has its own unwritten rules and hazing rites (esp. if you get off on the wrong foot).

You're as much a part of this community as anyone else. The difference is that nobody respects you.

I'd argue that there is little distinction between the two, but duly noted.

To be honest, nobody respects me either. I just ignore it and post.

This is way off if you think our hazing rites and rules are not written down.

I wonder if we could get a secret forum for all of us that are regulars here but aren't part of the "in-crowd".

You've weathered the storm well, RedSox. TDK would be wise to follow your example. I'm glad you've stuck around and I hope Dave will do the same. The board has been much duller this afternoon since he signed off.

                    • You've got an ally, TKD. Rashard Mendenhall agrees with you!

"What kind of person celebrates death? It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side..."Mendenhall didn't hold back, even making a reference to the Sept. 11 attacks.

                      • TKD: if you will simply publicly announce to the forum that you were wrong here, and then punch yourself in the groin several times, you will be surprised at how forgiving this crowd can be.

                        Please stick around.

                        • BTW, my $0.02 on the original subject:

To bring down 2 skyscrapers, the cover-up would have to be massive and widespread. How many would-be blackmailers, sudden consciences, and curious prying investigators would have to be bought off or eliminated to continue the conspiracy? Just a thought.

I am so sad I missed this thread until now.

                          • I've got a question for engineers. How probable was it that a 737 could take down the WTC? When the planes hit, did you think, "they could collapse soon"? I'm just wondering whether the terrorists knew the towers would come down or if even they were surprised.

                            Comment

                            • They were 767s, not 737s. The 767 weighs about 280,000 lbs loaded and each were carrying ~10,000 gallons of fuel, and hit the tower at very high speeds. The kinetic energy alone was staggering.

The majority of the steel backbone in the structure was contained in the inner core of the buildings, and not in the external shell as on many other buildings.

Steel melts at a relatively high temperature, but it also loses a great deal of its structural strength when it gets much over 600-800 degrees (remember paper burns at 451F). Between the outer structure of several floors being demolished plus the subjecting the structural steel backbone to elevated temperatures for several hours it is completely plausible to have those few floors buckle and collapse. Once they started it was a domino effect as each floor pancaked down on the one below. Also recall the upper 30 floors of the South Tower tipped over significantly before it started to fall. It didn't "fall in its footprint" as many claim.

Part of the problem I have with the "firefighters heard demolition charges" theory is the upper floors obviously fell on the lower floors. For a firefighter to hear the charges he would have been on the upper floors and would not have made it out to tell the story. Remember their radios did not work inside the buildings so they were unable to urge people to get out when they realized the first tower fell.

bin Laden was a structural engineer by training and apparently had theorized they might come down, but was still surprised to see them fall.

                              • Here is the South tower The top of the building toppled over into the direction of the hole prior to pancaking.

Somewhere I have a great picture my parents took from the observation decks on their anniversary trip, exactly one year to the day before this.
