I have read more of the law. To start, the person has to go through 4 hours, yep, 4 hours of training. They are then required to do 8 hours of training per year.

The person who has this 4 hours of training also can "temporarily detain an individual when the school guardian has reasonable cause to believe the individual has committed or is about to commit a forcible felony, as that term is defined in Section 76-2-402." So basically, the school guardian can brandish his weapon against a kid if he has "reasonable cause" to believe the child is going to commit a forcible felony. I am sure that the 4 hours of initial training will make sure that they can 'sus that out.

Sounds like the kind of law they'll get rid of after thinking better of it and after enough reasonable people find out about it.

If the state wants to allocate resources to have an armed police officer at each school, I will absolutely support that.

It doesn't seem like a well-crafted law. There are probably a lot of retired law enforcement folks that would do this if they were getting paid a reasonable amount.

I know several teachers that carry concealed in the classroom. Maybe they should convince more of them to carry.

Sure, but the group we are talking about is the GOP. My thoughts are the same. If those dynamics are still in play Trumpism isn't gone. Also, it shouldn't be expected to be gone any time soon.

The Utah Supreme court unanimously rules against the Legislature.

Utah Senate President J. Stuart Adams and House Speaker Mike Schultz said the court’s decision was “unprecedented and troubling.”

“The Legislature offered the Court a way to preserve the voting rights of all Utahns, but instead, the Court took the chance to vote on Amendment D out of the voters’ hands. It’s a sad day for Utah and voters, whether for or against the constitutional amendments,” said Adams and Schultz.
