These are tailors that are used to doing work on suits that cost upwards of $2000, so they can be trusted.

Pants can also be fixed. Fix the waist, remove the cuffs, taper the legs a bit. A good tailor will do wonders for you.

Looks like I need help. Soon I will be shopping for a nice suit as a reward for losing 50+ lbs. Will soon be getting back into the suit size that was my ultimate goal. Problem is, I have a fondness for pleats and cuffs on suit pants. Are those permanently lost to bygone days of lore? I haven't been paying attention to mens fashion - maybe pleats and cuffs were never in style.

Professionally, I don't wear a suit to work and quit wearing ties because I tired of others asking me "how the job interview went" every time I donned a tie. Have never like the "Mad Men" look so if that's the style, I'll wait until it changes before spending the $$$ on a nice suit. So what is the general consensus or recommendation for a suit that has a chance of staying in style for a few years?

Pleats and cuffs have not gone out of style, if that's your style (if you know what I mean). Its not on the cutting edge of fashion, but no one is going to laugh at you like you were wearing bell bottoms or something. I'd stick with one pleat if possible, and in no case more than 2. Also get a 2 button if you're looking for longevity. 1, 3 and 4 buttons may come in and out of style, but the 2 button will never look strange (as long as the buttons are not below your waist).

Pleats and cuffs aren't "out of style" per se, they just aren't what you'll find on the runways. I actually have a couple suits with pleats that I still wear, because I can't justify spending enough to completely replace my wardrobe every couple of years. My approach is more to add to it regularly, and move away from the stuff that is most worn and/or most out of date.

As for what will stay in style, 2-button suits are always in style, and will be much more serviceable than the 3-button, 4-button(!), and one-button trends. Also, double vent jackets are hip right now, but a single-vent is safe enough. Just don't go no vent.

1. Wear whatever the hell is in the closet.
