Please guys, just forgive each others' trespasses and let's move on.

DDD's son, or a daughter, is already funnier than you are.

These retorts are hardly pun-ishing me.

I'm gonna say, "Meh," see. Can you say otherwise?

You can't think of any circumstances where a person living near the Mexican-Arizona border would feel threatened by tresspassers in the dead of night? Really? I'm quite fond of latino people in general, so it's not about racism or xenophobia, but I'm also a fan of no trespassing signs, and the right to exclude others from your property if you don't want them there. Do I think a person has the right to light people up for mere tresspassing? Nope. But if I'm in his shoes, I simply think it's a reasonable response to intruders entering his property under the cover of darkness.

Short of building a concrete wall, I'm not sure what else Barnett can do to protect his right to exclude (and quite frankly I'm not sure it would be effective considering the tunnels that have been found along the border), and that's pretty pathetic in my opinion.

As I said, there are no easy answers that will both (a) protect Barnett's property rights and (b) preserve the illegal immigrant's right to be free from emotional distress....

I'm reading more on this, and what I don't understand is that the girl who was kicked had her suit dismissed by the court. Seems like the one person who had some form of actual, measurable damages....

Just get you some dogs. Dogs will chase off anything that happens wonders onto your land. If they kick your dog then no one (in Texas) will question you pulling a gun on them. Not even the reformed Michael Vick.

The problem is really two fold:

            (1) The United States needs to stop worrying about protecting other countries' borders and pay a lot more attention to its own. Why does the United States spend more money on military than almost all the other countries combined but can't seem to protect its own backyard?

            (2) The immigration policy of the United States is a joke and needs to pretty much be redone from scratch. We need to make it easier for those who want and can contribute to the economy of the United States to be here legally and with the proper documentation.

So Redsox sort of has a point. This guy didn't just wake up one morning and see some kids on his property. His land has apparently been the regional crossover of choice for a very long time, he's suffered considerable property loss, and he fears for his family's safety.

That said, he's clearly now a man on a vigilante mission. Border patrol agents testified that at night the man hides on his property in camo with a shotgun, just waiting for his next quarry to come creeping across his border.
So what would you (not just babs but anyone else) if you were in this guys situation? Someone show me a situation where this guy doesn't lose.

Dogs are a good idea. Attack llamas would be cool too if they existed. And if people aren't coming close enough to your house to alert your dogs then why do you even care?

I don't care who runs across my front yard as long as they keep on running.

Would you mind if they constantly broke your sprinkler system and keyed your car as they ran across your property?

Yeah that would bug me. Is that what the migrants were doing?

Apparently so, or something like that.

Just so I have this straight. If some dude is in my backyard in the dead of night I have no right to detain him at gunpoint until the cops arrive because it might inflict emotional distress.

WTF? You agree that it's an inappropriate response for mere trespassing, but it's A OK if it's 1) intruders that 2)enter his property 3)under cover of darkness. Allow me to remind you that Yosemite Sam here wasn't, in fact, burglarized by the poor Mexican family-- they cut across his property. BFD. His response was redneck, anti-social, and inappropriate, not to mention not very Christ-like.

I believe the only reason someone would stick up for this guy is due to a lapse of judgment fueled by an emotional response to the illegal alien element, which should have nothing to do with whether someone should be prosecuted for trespassing and only exposes ugly minute-man delusional bullshit like Wuap said.

Let me explicitly add 4) to the list (even though I've stated in numerous times)...on a ranch near the Mexican border. That's the key. If this were in Flagstaff, I'm not sure his response would be reasonable, but on the border? Yep. What would you suggest? Rollover and place a "visitor's welcome" mat on the edge of his property?

You're entitled to your beliefs, however simplistic and false they may be.

Unless Babs is pulling stuff out of her butt, they did more than cut across his property. Cutting across property is no big deal but vandalizing, breaking into houses and leaving trash around is IMO a big deal. The guy was out of line but was probably getting absolutely no help from the people that should be helping him. You might want to put yourself in the shoes of the rancher before you crap all over Redsox.

In all seriousness, we're totally on the same page. I actually believe he should patrol his land with loaded firearms and hold women and children hostage at gunpoint. And if one of them spic whores pipes up in that GD Mexican-Talk, kick her in the ribs with the Gore-Tex boots. AMERICA!! F*CK YEA :rockon1:
