OT: Has anyone here been to Cairo? I've always imagined it might smell bad when hot.

I've been there, several years ago. It was very cool and even modern. A great place to vacation. The bad thing was that everyone wanted to sell us something or asked for baksheesh. I don't remember it smelling bad.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I went to Cairo 14 years ago. A fantastic place.

            • Sad, she was reporting on the happy, jublient crowd, not the thugs we heard so much about? Not a good place to be. In a mob whether they are happy or mad.

One guy forgot about the new civility, it seems.

Especially in the developing world. I think these reporters sometimes forget where they are.

More than an ass. He is an armchair media whore who needs to shut the hell up.. In fact, I think it would be a good idea to have him dropped into the middle of Egypt and face the same attacks. "Wouldn't that be funny" (I am sure he would think so...)

                      • At least he didn't put crosshair marks on contested congressional districts that had absolutely no influence on a nutjob's decision to shoot a congresswoman in the head. Now that crossed the line.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Reportedly he's already resigned from his position at NYU and issued multiple apologies.

                          • I was talking with my brother the other day about the events in Egypt. He spent a couple of years at the Embassy there in the early '00s and still keeps in touch with some the people there.

He was mildly surprised that the military didn't take a stonger stand supporting Mubarak

He is not particulary worried about the Muslim Brotherhood taking over, because the military is so tightly tied with the US - He doesn't think they would allow it.

He is extreemly worried about the safety of some of Egytians he knew that worked for the Embasssy - In light of what happened to Lara Logan it looks like he might have legitimate worries.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."
