Bachmann's act will have measurable impact on the quality of the public discussion immediately following the SOTU.

And I'd flatly deny that she's "intelligent" - intelligent people don't get baited into asinine public comments about investigating other politicians for "un-American" behavior. That moment alone was disqualifying.

She's also said that the real reason liberals come after her is that they're afraid she'll run for president. Also disqualifyingly stupid - most liberals would absolutely LOVE for her to end up being the Republican nominee.

I will grant that "intelligent" is a relative term and that in her hometown she might be in the 80th percentile and well above average on smarts. But she doesn't have the kind of intelligence necessary to be an effective national leader.
Liberals and the big news media go after her because she says and does outrageous things. So she makes good copy for the media types (many of whom have an agenda that involves making conservatives look stupid) and she's great for liberals who want to paint her as representative of conservatism.

      Fixed that.

I equate "outrageous" with the behavior of people like David Lee Roth, Madonna, and Qadaffi.

I don't see much "outrageous" about what Bachmann does, but I do see plenty of "ignorant," "poorly considered" and "idiotic."

Once again - I grant that I'm saying this is her in the political context of her attempting to be a national leader - I'm sure that if I encountered her as a member of a local school board I'd think she was perfectly above average.

3 names I did not expect to find in this thread. Especially Diamond Dave, who really hasn't done anything that outrageous for probably 20 years. Sammy Hagar and even Gary Cherone have arguably been more outrageous.

Now Brock, don't let Olberman scare you. Close your eyes and pretend it's Glenn Beck telling you the same thing. It'll be easier for you that way. Imagine it's Brother Glenn giving you the date, the network and the reporter who first said "teabagger" on national TV and meant a political movement when he said it.

BTW this took 10.2 seconds to find.

I'm confused. First you said Hannity. Now you say Beck. Which should I pretend is telling me this? Is O'Reilly an option? TIA.

This is, um, something of a stretch. As a non-Tea Party guy, let me just state for you the "evidence" you've linked to:

Olbermann said, “It is as useful to remind them anew of how the term originated and with whom. A TV news report aired last March 14 in which a correspondent described the original protest act, ‘take a teabag, put it in an envelope, and mail it to the White House.’ He added, ‘reteaparty.com has a headline Teabag the Fools in D.C. on tax day.’ Thus the verb to teabag was invented by the teabaggers themselves, and the correspondent who put it on TV was a Griff Jenkins of Fox News. Send your complaints to him.”

The teabaggers coined their own name, without realizing what it also means, and then they blamed their critics for their stupidity. By the way, why did it take them so long to figure out what a teabagger is? Why has this outrage on their part flared up recently?
LOL. So I guess Anderson Cooper (who knows darn well what "teabagging" means and later apologized for using the word) saw that "TV news report that aired last March 14" (oddly enough we aren't told on what station that report aired; I suspect it might have been in Des Moines) and was simply using the term because he thought that's what the group wanted to call itself?

I confess I didn't know what it meant before the little dust-up.

But then I lead a sheltered life.

Oh, he's on, and I have come across his show while channel-surfing, but I am rarely watching TV at the time he is on and I don't have the patience for his schtick. I do not criticize those who do like to watch him. I don't watch any of the TV pundits whether they are on Fox, MSNBC, or PBS.
