Vance is clearly intelligent, which is why it’s baffling he says such stupid things. He’s throwing away any chance he’s ever had at the presidency, which might be a good thing for us at this point.Originally posted by Maximus View Post"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. My son took it in the 7th grade due to being gifted. At least portions based on the testing for the gifted program.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View Post
I didn't think the SAT was administered to younger kids, and certainly not for the purpose of elementary school GATE and More Able programs. I don't think that IQ tests were administered universally to kids, but they were for special cases, for private schools, and in some school districts. The Stanford Binet (IQ) tests were fairly common, at least in California, in the 60s and private school Donnie almost certainly had that and other tests administered to him.
I also think Trump has, or at least had, considerable intellectual gifts. But through a combination of bad parenting, terrible examples (Hello, Roy Cohn!), and the lack of a moral center, his only efforts to self-improve have selfish and materialistic, certainly not academic, intellectual or spiritual. He is the most solipsistic human I've ever been aware of.

I will be showing a keen interest in his personality once his term as VP ends and he is no longer attached to Trump.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

Doesn’t make me like him more but more a character flaw that he was willing to change his standing for the office of VP.
I can only hope once Trump is out of office or passes, we will see an end to this extremism with the GOP. And all these Trumpians without a spine will revert back to their formal selves. But again, this just shines a light on the farce that is our political system

It will be interesting to see what happens, but I doubt we revert back to a normal rational GOP. I think Trump is fundamentally altered the DNA of the Republican Party. Time will tell I guess.Originally posted by dabrockster View Post

Vance has been pretty awful in his own right. I'm sure that is who will get trotted out to be Trump's replacement. But like Hegseth, Patel, Bondi, Noam, Miller etc, his actions during this admin are a sign he doesn't belong in While House. He connection with Peter Thiel is worrisome too.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

JD Vance is like Mike Lee or Lindsay Graham. All three were at one time deeply opposed to Donald Trump and honestly, accurately, and publicly stated his fundamental character flaws only to later come groveling back in order to gain access to power and opportunity. The cost of remaining honest was their political careers so the jettisoned their integrity. I have zero respect for all three. They clearly know better and just sold their souls."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

It will take at least 8-years for that to happen. His involvement and the cronies at all levels of the party lusting over him and his success has played a role in this being fully embedded into the GOP. I can only hope without his involvement and death (He is too old to keep going another 8-years) in that time, things will shift. I do it want his kids involved anymore other (Don’t need another Bush dynasty in politics)..Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

I also think the shift of Democratic Socialism and that continued growth across the country will play a role in this. Both political parties have fully leaned into the extremism. The day of publicly being enemies and working for the betterment of the country behind closed doors with compromising deals is no longer the path.
I hate our political system in what it has become…

Another moment where Vance signals he is not POTUS material. He downplays Nixon's corruption story and blame Watergate on the "Deep State."
WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President JD Vance on Thursday said the Watergate scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon would have been a blip in today’s news cycle, and he drew parallels between Nixon and President Donald Trump — arguing that both were targeted by “deep state” forces.
Vance described his admiration for Nixon during a conversation at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, California. Widely expected to be a presidential contender in 2028, Vance spoke at the library while promoting his new book, “Communion.”
After talking about the book and his faith journey, Vance shifted to Nixon, saying the legacy of the 37th president is “enjoying a bit of a renaissance.”
“If Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12-hour news story. The idea that it would have taken down a presidency is crazy,” Vance said.

Or, in other words, Trump does something worse than Watergate about every 12 hours.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostAnother moment where Vance signals he is not POTUS material. He downplays Nixon's corruption story and blame Watergate on the "Deep State."
