  • Shooting at protestors in SLC

    Giving this its own thread.

Yesterday's No Kings marchers in SLC were attacking by a gunman and it looks like one person has died. It looks like the shooter tried to blend in with the crowd but he got identified

The dude who pulled an AR-15 out in a threatening manner was shot by self appointed peace keepers. They're the ones who killed the bystander while also injuring the guy with the AR-15. I'm very much interested in their backstory.

On Reddit, there are several people who are saying they know the guy with the rifle and that he was a left-wing protestor that frequently brought his rifle to protests. There is also a video showing that the guy did not have his rifle raised when the "peacekeeper" opened fire. Sounds like the peacekeeper lied to the police about what happened to cover his ass.

      Here's the video:

Sounds like holster sniffers itching to use their guns. Idiots.

He is wearing all black and the rifle isn't exactly pointed all the way down.

is this Kyle Rittenhouse all over again? I'm curious to know what Bo thinks

My gut reaction is that these were some over zealous wanna be heroes. The video doesn't tell the whole story, so I'm withholding judgement. No doubt it's a complex situation, but I believe the police will figure it out.

my question is if the holding rifle dude did enough to legally present himself as a threat before being shot at

And who even are these "peacekeepers?" Were they hired by the protest organizers or did they just appoint themselves ad hoc?

The video leaves more questions than answers.

Seems to me to be vigilantes. I doubt the organizers would have hired them.

Anyone who brings a gun to a protest without being an official uniformed peace officer is brain dead. That black clad guy with the rifle looked menacing to me in the video. I don't care if he didn't level his rifle directly at someone. But these peacekeepers also sound like unauthorized morons. What a mess.

So...I was there. The person who was shot was maybe 20 ft. behind me. My lasting memory of this event will be seeing my wife and daughter running away in terror. The event was very peaceful before this happened. I feel like this shooting underscores the very reason there should be tighter gun regulation, but even more than that the gun culture in this country is out of control.

Shots fired in your general direction or vicinity will always leave a mental mark. I am glad you guys are ok.

Agree with most of this. I guess im empathetic to the "peace keeper." Thats a split second call. In a lot these instances the criticism has been that people don't react soon enough.

If what the guy with rifle wasn't illegal it should be.
