I agree with the bolded sentence. The question is whether the citizens of Canada have the collective political will to actually tap those resources or whether they will make economically suicidal decisions similar to how Germany shut down all their nuclear plants.

Canada is doubling down on nuclear. I live within thirty minutes of two massive nuclear power plants and a third even larger one is four hours away. I can't drive down the street without hearing a government ad on the radio talking about how Canada is investing in microreactors:

There are many states in the US (13) that have legalized assisted dying laws. Oregon’s assisted dying laws pre-date Canada’s by decades. I do not support MAID. I imagine more details about the story in your link will come to light, beyond what is being the sensational shared by Fox news or other outlets. The situation is under investigation by police.
