Wow, you got all that from my decision to check the Lib's box instead of Jello Biafra's. Clearly my grandkids are going to be pissed. Maybe the Dems (who have vastly greater ability to eliminate the scourge of Trumpism than I do) should have (a) not enabled a clearly enfeebled Joe to even consider a second term (he could have gone out a hero if he'd announced an LBJ-like withdrawal a year ago), and (b) had a legit primary season where their best and brightest (and there are several, although Kamals isn't one of them) vied for the presidency. And btw, singing along with Trump's minions that he's going to win bolsters their claims of FRAUD! if and when he loses.

It’s baked in the cake that the democrats will eventually do the right thing after exhausting all the other horrible options. It’s built into the psyche of the party, it’s why the party struggles when they have been right about almost everything over the last 40 years and should be dominating at every level of politics in the country.

President Bidens reelection effort is no different. I think he suffered a medical event during or right before the debate. I’d like to believe the same people who excised him post debate would have done the same pre debate if he was acting that way in private, but maybe it’s another example of them knowing what the right thing to do was but going through all the horrible choices first. The fact though is they did remove him and the party hasn’t received the credit they deserve for doing what they did.

And what’s their reward? Sane washing from the center right.

Right about almost everything for 40 years. Lol.

Holy cow. A medical event? Biden was the same doddering old fool he had been for a long time. Look at all the WH insiders who were saying for months that he was basically incoherent most of the time. His approval numbers were in the toilet. He should have stepped aside a year earlier and the party leadership should have pushed for it. They may now lose the election to a complete lunatic as a result. Massive failure of leadership.

And you call out others for "washing". Amazing.

            • The propaganda unit’s work has successfully reached the highest levels of the Republican party, with vice presidential candidate JD Vance repeating at least one of their narratives. NBC reported this week that the group has pushed at least 50 false narratives in this manner since last fall, which comes amid a broader Russian government effort to disrupt next month’s election with the aim of helping former president Donald Trump return to the White House.

A couple of days ago he still wouldn't let the Haitian migrants eating pets go (when pressed he said 'what about the geese?'). I think reasonable people can understand he is either brazenly lying and never admits when he's wrong, or he actually believes the shit he's peddling. Today he is still parroting the claim that FEMA doesn't have money to help the hurricane victims.

Another problem that the GOP will have to deal with (irrespective of who wins the presidency) is the 8 years that elected officials have been emasculated bowing the knee to him, and the power that Trump will still continue to have. Behind Trump in that video is a NC republican representative. He publicly had to repudiate the canard about FEMA not having money a couple of weeks ago. And today here he is rah-rahing Trump while he continues to lie about FEMA. Those voters are going to be around when Trump leaves, and future elected officials are taking notes on how to energize them.
I am not sure that Trumpism can survive without Trump. (did you know that Donald is already 78?!?) Also, it seems to me that many of the Trump sycophant politicians seem to have difficulty getting elected in non-red states. I think that with shifting demographics as Boomer die off, the Republican party will necessarily morph into what it needs to be to remain competitive, or be relegated to forever second place. I think that even folks who voted for Trump will be refreshed to be able to vote for someone else in coming election, once the power vacuum is filled with the next wave of candidates.

Not all Trump voters are supporting him because of his worst impulses (although plenty are) but every Trump voter is supporting him despite his worst impulses, at least. Let’s take a moment to consider what they’re prepared to validate, enthusiastically or not, because they’ve decided that trying to bring down prices somehow by slapping gigantic Trumpy tariffs on everything is more important.
Their votes will affirm that conniving to disenfranchise Americans by overturning a national election, including inciting a mob against Congress, doesn’t make someone unfit for national office—even if that someone is already plotting to do it again. Given that precedent, the only reason future losing candidates will have not to scheme to undo their defeats is an atavistic sense of civic duty in a country that increasingly regards such things as “weakness.”

Their votes will affirm that a felony rap sheet isn’t disqualifying for a president and, with respect to the federal indictments pending against Trump, will effectively place him above the law. For the first time in American history, a politician will have been granted formal power by the electorate to quash his own criminal jeopardy. After receiving broad prospective immunity by the U.S. Supreme Court as a constitutional matter, the new president would be receiving de facto retrospective immunity for previous crimes from his voters.

Their votes will affirm that, having lived through the circus of the first Trump term, they’d prefer to plunge the country back into that daily anxiety rather than give mundane Democrat Kamala Harris a chance. Corruption, freak-show personnel choices, government-by-whim, and policy-by-tweet are a given. Whether a second term will involve more lavish and impeachable crises, like new coup attempts or flouting court orders, remains to be seen, but Trump’s voters are plainly willing to run the risk. Knowing now what a Trump presidency looks like, they’ve decided they want a sequel
                          .
