Law enforcement sources briefed on the investigation told ABC News that preliminary information developed in the probe indicates that the shooter was in the U.S. Army in 2008 and was "removed due to mental health concerns."

In addition to the insignia on the shooter's equipment that suggested a right-wing extremist ideology, investigators have found social media accounts connected to the shooter that reveal hundreds of postings and images, including writings with racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist rhetoric, neo-Nazi material and material espousing the supremacy of the white race.

Apparently his brother, who he lived with, has a lengthly criminal record... Maybe some of that behavior rubbed off.

Sometimes these gangs require an act of violence before they will let you in. So maybe he was trying out for a "major league" gang to be like his brother.
Look, we all know you don't read the crap you link to, but this is embarrassing, even for you.

"Prisoners flocked to the Tango Blast because its laissez-faire philosophy is the antithesis of the established prison gang mentality of blood-in, blood-out – the notion that members have to commit an act of violence to get in and that the only way out is to die."

Also, it's a prison-only identiy. They don't operate on the outside. They don't recruit on the streets. So.. a dude with no prison time? Not likely gonna be a member.

Did you read the article? Embarrassing dude.

The Tango Blast, a violent, drug-dealing gang born in the Texas prison system, is growing in popularity and could change the Dallas landscape because it rejects old notions of prison gang exclusivity and lifelong commitments.
        [...]
At 16, Ricky already wears the stars of the Tango Blast. He was 14 when he acquired them, not so much because he wanted to join, but because he saw gang members in his Dallas neighborhood sporting the Tango Blast tattoos. To him, they looked cool.

But once those Tango Blast members spotted his tattoos, they were none too happy.

He said they told him that he'd get beaten up every day if he didn't join them.

"I didn't feel like getting jumped every day," said Ricky, who asked that his full name not be used.

So he said he met them in a field and they "jumped him in" to the gang.
So maybe he tattoo'ed "D-town" on his hand because he wanted to be like his brother and maybe he met someone during his time in the Dallas County lock up that "jumped him in" to the gang.

Are you sure you're talking about the same guy? Can you cite a normal news source that has even mentioned the tattoo you're talking about?

Ok, I saw the Washington Post mention a tattoo but they said it appeared to be one of the logo of the city of Dallas. The same story also said he had no criminal record. Neighbors say he kept to himself but saw no indications of bad behavior. Sounds like the typical profile to me of how these mass shooters are in the open until they strike. They're still looking into where he got his weapons. I think the whole point of linking him to inner city gangs was to say he got his weapons illegally, so any kind of regulation wouldn't work, right? I guess we'll see what they find out.

lol no, it's not. Standard operating procedure. And if it gets him painted into a corner he can just pull the ripcord and say he was just trolling you.

Yes, it is the logo of the city of Dallas. This is a trademark of the D-Town Tango Blast gang. From wikipedia:

Individual Tango members use regionally appropriate symbols as tattoos to identify the tango to which they belong. Generally, Tango members identify themselves by sport team logos or area codes from their home town or region.
              https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puro_Tango_Blast

Why would this guy have the city of dallas logo on his hand otherwise? Maybe he was employee of Dallas and love his job so much he decided to get the logo of the city tattooed on his hand?

It's all over the twitter... So it has to be true.

              • In light of the evidence coming out today that there was a clear neo-Nazi/white supremacy element, I wonder how long Ted is going to cling to the gang story.

Looks like he was in some kind of a gang.

                  Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Dude.. the Tango Blast and Aryan Brotherhood tats shared the same wall in the Dallas County prosecutor's office so they are obviously connected: https://www.dmagazine.com/frontburne...as-fort-worth/

Did he get the weapons illegally? Don't forget that was your main point other than to try to downplay or refute the neo nazi angle.

Given that he was removed from the military for "mental health concerns" after just 3 months how could he buy weapons legally himself? It is not like our crack DoJ department would let that record slip from his background check, right? Oh, wait a minute... NVM.

Doesn't the NRA oppose restrictions like that? If a simple bill in Congress sought to keep people removed from the military for mental health concerns from buying guns, the pro gun lobby would fight it tooth and nail and it would not pass. You know that.

Don't think so... From the NRA's website:

And we’ve repeatedly called for our background check system to be fixed – to stop criminals and those who’ve been adjudicated mentally ill from buying guns.

Sounds like they want the DoJ to fix their sh*t.

They're lying. Every time such a thing has come up they have fought it.

Bills that congress propose are always full of sh*t that one side or the other tries to sneak in. The NRA was most likely opposing some other sh*t in the bill and then the Dems jump up and down saying that the NRA opposes background checks. That's how it works. And it is the same sh*t over and over again. Maybe the Dems should just stop playing politics.
