Yeah, I'm just so tired of all of this. JD Vance said something to the effect that school shootings are a just a fact of life now. But thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers.

An 8-year-old finds a loaded gun in his car while his mom is in the Maverick buying a treat and shoots and kills himself. Horrible tragedy, but any of us could have been there that day and taken a bullet. Why does someone have a loaded gun in their car? Can we not pass laws against this crap?

It's just all so insane.

One step in the right direction, as was that Michigan case (I believe) where the parents were charged and convicted. A good step, but more needs to be done.

Come on. He said he HATES that it is a fact of life. Looking at the frequency and consistency of mass shootings in American in the last two decades, any honest person would admit they are a fact of life. So is child abuse, murder, rape, etc. Saying that doesn't mean we shouldn't do everything we can to prevent them.

Sure, but what is lost in this minor correction/retraction is what else he said about gun reform. Stricter gun reform laws shouldn't even be part of the conversation since school shootings happen everywhere, even in blue states. So really he doesn't want to do everything to try to prevent them.

It just plays into a narrative that repubs have put forward that "well, this has happened again" and we're limited to 1) sending thoughts and prayers, 2) making fortresses out of our schools and 3) arming the teachers. I fully agree that more must be done. I just don't believe he is serious about doing everything that needs to be done.
