10 years ago, this wouldn't have upset me. Now that I have kids, stuff like this makes me want to cry.

Man Walks into Denny's, pretends to be General Manager, cooks himself dinner

          http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2012/02...imself-dinner/

The gray-haired 52-year-old (pictured at left) entered the restaurant around 4.30 p.m. in a maroon tie and long black trenchcoat. He went to the office door of the current general manager, insisted that he was a three-decade veteran of the fast food chain, and had been sent from the corporate offices to immediately start his job as general manager. The current manager told Summers that he must have gotten the wrong restaurant, and the interaction turned into a "nose on nose," in her words. He left and told her that he was going to start work. His first task: cooking himself dinner...

...The intruder was chowing down when she told him that he was definitely not who he said was. He continued eating, and said she just hadn't got the memo....

...By the time the police arrived, Summers was leaving the scene. He agreed to return, insisted again that he was the general manager, and although the police couldn't confirm the facts, they arrested him. An officer discovered a stun gun in his belt, and when he asked Summers if he had a permit, he replied, "it's in the pipeline."
As he was taken away from the restaurant by police, Summers allegedly shouted out: "This is why you don't dine and dash kiddies."
          This guy has panache.

            That's just too funny.
            Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Probably the wrong thread for this. If so, feel free to move it.

However, there is so much wrong with this story.

Right down to the name of the mother. Are you kidding me? Why is it that so many news stories involve people's names that are just... so... wrong for the story?

Not to mention that the whole thing just feels a bit unplausible. "We were told it was a hate crime." "My 5-year-old came in and asked me, 'Mom, am I going to get set on fire today?'" The whole thing sounds so contrived.

If you are an official in a smallish town with $8MM in annual revenues, how long does it take until you notice that your comptroller is stealing an average of $5MM a year?

In Dixon, IL (birthplace of Ronald Reagan), it takes 6 years. Actually, who knows how long it would have taken them, since a temp employee was the one who discovered it.

I don't think this makes the mayor or anyone else look very smart.

Moral of the story: if one is going to embezzle millions over several years, do not take an extended, unpaid vacation when a temp employee may discover something inappropriate. It's not just this case either. I learned this in a BYU graduate level accounting course about fraud. We studied numerous cases of fraud and a surpising number were detected when the embezzler took vacation. On the other hand, one was discovered because the employee refused to take vacation.

APRIL 20--A man suspected of a years-long public defecation spree in his Maryland neighborhood is facing a criminal rap after he was caught on videotape relieving himself in the driveway of a former police officer.

When confronted by cops, Kelly Ervin, 48, offered a bizarre explanation, according to police. Ervin reported that he goes running almost every day around 4 AM, and when he hits the two-mile mark, “he has to have a bowel movement.”

Ervin, who works in medical sales, has also coached a girl’s team at the Salisbury Lacrosse Club. The squad is known as the “Scoopers.”

That gives a whole new meaning to the running term of "second wind".

Are there any TV weathermen still living in Saudi Arabia? Do they fear for their lives or simply sticking to reporting what the weather WAS?
