  • ABC national news was talking about the Bennett loss. They said it was a tea party victory. I didn't even know the tea party was active in Utah, not to say they aren't, just wasn't aware. I thought Bennet's ouster was the doing of the Eagle Forum and those folks.

My only contact with the procedure was by finding out two guys I play golf with were delegates. Both of them told me they got involved because they are sick and tired of the spending that goes on by the government. They both said they thought Bennett was part of the problem and not the solution.

I asked if they were Eagle Forum guys and won of their responses was "hell no". The other guy just smiled and said no. I didn't even think to ask if they were tea partiers.

I will have to ask them details on what happened. Neither played golf Saturday. By the way, I don't think these guys are religious nuts. One I am prety sure isn't LDS or definitely not active.

Now, this is my only contact with those who are delegates. I guess that is why I am a bit taken back when they are described as right wing nuts. These two aren't.

It would be a bit different if the opposing party had a chance but because of the nature of the political landscape in UT (i.e. one party system) the senator will essentially be chosen by party delegates and not by its citizens.

Don't get too worked up by my complaints. I have no vote in this race, now or in November.
No worries. I'm really not worked up and I do get your point. I'd say you're missing my point as well, but that's probably not true. We just disagree.

Hatch originally ran for Senate on the premise that the other guy, Frank Moss, had been in too long and that 4 terms was too long for a senator. As is the wont of politicians, Hatch broke his promise of limited terms when he ran for his third consecutive term.

I think she already has plenty of support.

She definitely has accomplished so much with so little.

                • I'm announcing on CUF my candidacy for Orrin Hatch's Senate seat. Please forget about and don't make public my complete ambivalence towards the gay marriage issue. Also, I was joking when I said I didn't support capital punishment. Bennett got what was coming to him for voting for TARP, don't listen to anyone that tells you that it prevented our financial system from reaching Great Depression levels of panic.

BTW, all my unfunny jokes about mormon culture was just an effort to troll some people in this forum. Woot, SU, et.al, like all apostates, don't seem to be able to leave the church alone.

JL, please delete my thread about people that I would put into that constitutionalist poster with "Hollywood Actor" and the student with the Cleon Skousen manifesto.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Quick check. Do you have a Heritage Foundation copy of the constitution in your pocket right now?

No? Please step to the back of the line.

Fat chance. That was some of your best work.

Sorry to say it, folks, but you became unelectable and unconfirmable when you signed up for this circus. Enjoy life as plebians.

That and the fact I've only voted twice in my life. I was gung-ho about it in 1994 having just turned 18 a month before, and in 1994 it really mattered in my district and state.

In 1996 I was on my mission. In 1998 I had just returned from my mission and was probably too late to register, regardless I didn't even bother to check into it.

2000, was too lazy and didn't really care given the fact that I was in a noncompetitive state.

                              2002 ditto

                              2004 ditto

                              2006 ditto, but voted anyway

2008 ditto but didn't vote, I wasn't going to vote for Obama and McCain didn't exactly inspire me to change my tradition of laziness.

2010, I'm changing things up. Not only am I going to register, but I'm going to register as a Republican. My 2012 race to usurp Orrin Hatch starts in 2010.

                              • By the way, I didn't even know who Wallace Bennett was until someone mentioned him in this thread. I looked at the wikipedia page and saw this picture:

                                Here's Bob Bennett:

Nice cap job Wallace! You're not fooling anyone! Please let everyone in on the secret of looking 30 years younger than your actual age. Also whoever issued your death certificate must be the same guy who issued Obama's birth certificate.
